Q: installed el capitan and the key board does not work with windows 7 in boot camp

I just installed El Capitan and when I try to use window 7 Ultimate in BootCamp the keyboard does not respond. It was working fine with the OS Yosemite. Mouse and printer work fine. I replaced batteries in the keyboard.

iMac (27-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Thanks for all your suggestions. I have tried them, but unfortunately still the same situation. Just to be clear, the keyboard works perfectly fine when using El Capitan on the same computer, it is only when rebooting using Windows 7 that the keyboard does not work.

    1. What year/model is your Mac?

    2. Can you post a screen shot of Device Manager with HID Devices expanded?

Do you have a wired and a wireless keyboard and the wireless keyboard does not work, but the wired one does?

I have the wireless Apple keyboard, and a Windows keyboard connected via its own USB dongle, in both cases Windows 7 ignores any of the standard keys. The Windows keyboard has other special keys for opening up mail programs etc, and Windows 7 does respond to those. When using El Capitan, both keyboards work just fine.

There are three wireless keyboards. The full Wireless original (plastic), the small wireless ( aluminum without the numeric keys), and the new Magic Keyboard. Which of the three are you using?

Can you unpair the Wireless keyboard from both OS X and Windows, pair it to Windows first, test, and then pair it to OS X second and test?

I am using the small wireless keyboard. I tried unpairing both from OS X and Windows, and pair to Windows, but after pairing (where obviously it must have recognised the numbers I keyed in), still no response in Windows unfortunately.

My keyboard was working fine with with my iMac. It was not working with Windows in Bootcamp. I went to Windows in Bootcamp. Went into utilities. Into keyboard. Deleted keyboard. Added keyboard again. A pairing number was given. I punched into the keyboard and pressed enter. I rebooted the computer and the keyboard was working.

. Is your keyboard working now and it was not earlier?

I think we have to wait for Apple to address this issue. I have the same problem with my iMac 2011. Everything worked fine with the Yosemite + Windows 8.1 combo. Now with El Capitan (and a clean install) the keyboard doesn't work anymore.

What version of Bootcamp drivers are you using? Can you repair BC drivers using Boot Camp: Solve Windows support software installation problems ? Please run SMC and NVRAM Reset to test.

i seem to have stumbled onto a simple solution. i downloaded the Bootcamp Support Software 5.1.5640, it didn't allow me to run the whole setup but i did just install the bluetooth and keyboard drivers. It still wasn't working so i went into Devices and Printers, right clicked properties on the apple wireless keyboard and under the services tab i ticked the box that said Drivers for keyboard, mice, etc (HID) and it now works, Not sure if there were any superfluous steps in the process but that was how i arrived at the solution.

IT is very simple I switched off the power from the main and pulled the plug from socket and after two hours again connected problem of key board was over

Obviously the memory was clean and fresh and it worked.
