Q: can't get iMac9,1 give sound to my TV and the HDMI option is not available even tho tv and mac are connected, works just fine with MBP but i need it to work with iMac9,1 please help :(

I can't get HDMI sound output on my iMac9,1 sound preferences even tho they TV and iMac9,1 are connected with HDMI cable, please someone help.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

I see you are not receiving any audio output via HDMI on your iMac. Thanks for providing me the model identifier as this has helped me identify the issue. Looking at the specs for this particular iMac and that it requires a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, audio is not supported with this Early 2009 model via this configuration. Unfortunately, video will only be able to transmit via the adapter and HDMI.
