Q: I cannot login to App Store

Dear Community,

I updated my MacBook Air (Mid 2012) to El Capitan. Since then I am not able to log in using my or any other Apple ID to App Store, iTunes etc. Whenever I try to log in toApp Store it gets stuck; after entering my Apple ID and the correct password, I get the spinner. If I enter a wrong password, this is recognized and stated.

The console shows the following prompts:

18.10.15 09:21:28,126 App Store[382]: Unknown class FRToolbar in Interface Builder file at path /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/StoreUI.framework/Resources/Base.lproj/FRStor eViewController.nib.

You're not alone.  For a short while after I upgraded to El Capitan, App Store worked, but within the last few days, I get the spinning beach ball, and "App Store (Not responding)" in the Activity Monitor, and the same "storeaccountd" messages in my logs.  I'm going to try a permission / disk scan with Disk Utility to see if that helps.

Yeah, it worked.  I booted into Recovery mode - command-r just after turning on the power - used the Disk Utility tool to repair the drive and it worked: I can now get into the App Store without the dreaded "(Not responding)" message.  However, in trying to boot into Recovery mode, I accidentally booted into Safe mode, first, and was able to start App Store, there.  So, you can try both.  Good luck.

I am very sorry. Your hints did not work for me.

Looking at other posts, my problem seems to happen with lots of other users too. Has anyone solved the log in problem?

I have the same issue since I updated my MacBook Pro to El Capitan. Disk recovery did not work - login still hangs. Clearing App Store caches did not work either.

I have been having the same problem, too, for over a week now. App Store says I have updates to Numbers, Pages, Keynote and iMovie, but when I try to log in, I get the gray spinning wheel and eventually have to force-quit App Store because I can't click away, cancel the sign-in, or quit in the normal fashion. I have tried repairing disk permissions, starting in safe mode to see if I could log in there (no), nothing has worked.

I discovered a solution in one of Apple's support communities. Sadly I do not remember which one it was or who wrote it, as I serached so many hints. I hope he or she will excuse me.

Here is the solution for my problem:

Please note that it will delete your Apple ID account information for the current user and you will need to log in again.

    • If the App Store is opened and stuck in the login process, force close it.
    • Open the Terminal
    • Issue the following commands:

             sudo pkill -9 -f Account

             sudo rm $HOME/Library/Accounts/*

    • Open the App Store and log in

I hope, it will help others too! Good luck!

Worked for me, thanks! I was suspecting that it was related to serial number not showing on "About This Mac" page as recommended by many. But it looks like Gizmo2 solution was the right one for my app store login problem.
