Q: iCloud Backup Not working after iOS 9 u/g

Subject says it all.  Signed out of and back into iCloud - when I try to execute a backup manually, I get the generic "The last backup could not be completed".  I'm plugged in, WiFi is on, etc.  I continue to get notifications telling me that I haven't executed a backup in so many weeks...Specifically, the last backup executed just fine on a week before I upgraded to iOS 9.  It hasn't backed up since.  I never installed any beta versions of iOS9 before I upgraded to 9.0.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Equipment is an iPod Touch 5th Gen, iOS 9.0.2.

I've been having the same problem, first with my iPhone 6 and now with the iPhone 6S Plus. After setting up the 6S Plus, I was able to manually back it up to iCloud once, but since it simply doesn't work every time I try to manually back it up and the automatic backups at night don't happen. Something must be wrong with iCloud, because while it's trying to back up I get erratic readings in how long it will take to back up. Sometimes, its says that it's going to take 2 minutes before it quits backing up; other times, I get a count of 7, 9 or more minutes.

I also reset my old iPhone 6 for my wife last night and I saw this morning that it too failed to back up to iCloud. I wish Apple would fix this or at least acknowledge there is a problem--the status page shows green for iCloud Backup...

Not to applaud your misfortune but I'm happy to hear someone else has the issue too.  Apple won't confirm the issue, they'll just fix it in an upcoming maintenance release (hopefully).  I've tried everything and I can't get it to back up.

I'm going to call Apple's tech support and see what they have to say. In the meantime, I keep on backing up manually to the computer using iTunes. I figure as long as back it up once or twice a week, I'll be safe.

If I get any words of wisdom from the Apple tech support guys, I'll make sure to post here...

FYI - I went through the whole 9 yards with support to no avail either.

So I called Apple Tech Support this evening and we got my iPhone to backup to iCloud. He didn't have me do anything that I had not tried before. But last night, I had upgraded my iMac to 10.11.1 and the iPhone to 9.1. Here's the steps he had me follow:

    1. Connected the iPhone to the iMac and got iTunes running.

    2. In the iPhone Summary screen in iTunes, I clicked on "backup now"

    3. The first time I did this, instead of backing up to iCloud it updated the backup on the iMac--even though the iCloud radio button was selected.

    4. I  selected "this computer" radio button and then selected the iCloud radio button and tried backing it up again.

    5. This time, it backed up to iCloud and the latest backup date updated.

    6. I then went to the iPhone "Settings/iCloud/Backup" and tapped on backup now. This time it backed up in a couple of minutes.

So it seems to be working now. I'll check it in the morning to make sure it backed up to iCloud automatically. It seems that the latest updates fixed this backup problem (at least I hope it was fixed).

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for posting.  I'm using a Windows 10 machine and did not want to install iTunes to back up my iPod but it looks like I will have to do that as backing up to iCloud just doesn't seem like an option for me anymore.  I upgraded to iOS 9.1 today and still, the backup does not work.  Maybe my iPod has developed a hardware issue.  I guess I'll never know.  I liked the fact that it would just automatically backup to the iCloud without having to initiate anything but like I said, that just doesn't seem to be an option anymore.  My iPod is out of warranty so support won't take another exception call from me.  I'm pretty disgusted I thought this sort of stuff wouldn't happen on the Apple side, but it just proves nothing is perfect.

You may want to try installing iTunes to see if you can get the iCloud backup going that way. Once you get a good backup on iCloud, you can then continue backing it up from the device itself. And once you get it working, you could then uninstall iTunes from your computer if you didn't want it any longer.

    Just a thought...

Absolutely - It's on my list of things to do tomorrow.  Otherwise I have no way to back my unit up.
