Q: iPhone 6 iOS 8 Voice Control comes on randomly while using headphones, how do I disable??

I already disabled Siri from Settings > General > Siri

This is really annoying, it stops my music and I try to navigate on the phone and the Voice Control screen appears and doesn't want to go away. Help please!

Looks like this problem is more common than people think. Fed up with my situation, I decided to scour Amazon.com for replacement headphones because I hate the Apple ones. And lo and behold, what do I find? A complaint about the same problems we're experiencing in reviews for one of the most popular earphones on Amazon at the moment. Clicking on the screenshot takes you to the other reviews.

It's either the earphones fault for not being properly compatible with the iPhone, or Apple's fault in terms of hardware. Build quality vs. hardware. Time to check reviews for more expensive, high-end earphones. Guess the only solution for now is to buy earphones that are specifically iPhone-compatible. :/

I rarely use headphones with my iPhone 6 Plus and Voice Control acts like an evil entity on my phone!  It often starts up when I'm setting or turning off alarms or doing tasks that don't have anything to do with voice use.  After I manage to get Voice Control to go away, the color scheme reverses and I have to hit the Home button 3 times quickly to get it back to normal.  (Those reverse colors are insane - that's supposed to help people with bad eyes??  Another thing Apple did that is senseless.)  Generally, I love my phone.  But every update is buggy as h***.  I'm on 8.3 (I won't go to 8.4 because I want nothing to do with Apple Music, but will upgrade to iOS 9 when it comes out - but I don't have any expectation that 9 won't be a nightmare of its own).

This is almost as annoying as iTunes launching automatically every time I get in my car.  Apple's solution:  delete my music.  The apple manager I spoke with has the same problem.  He told me to buy another iPod for my music.  Why did I buy this if I'm required to deactivate the features I purchased?

Similar issues, iPhone 5s, iOS 8.3 ... Siri started popping up constantly without my asking.  I eventually found a way to turn Siri off ... but then Voice Control started popping up ... phone became unusable.  Found this thread and applied everything advised here ... still no luck.

I don't use head phones often but when I do it's always the Apple earbuds, so no issue there with metal-to-metal contact.

Finally out of desperation, I restored from a 5 week old backup, then upgraded to iOS 8.4.

Voice control popped up just 1 time after that ... but then has disappeared and hasn't reappeared since (that's 2 days ago).

I now have Siri turned back on ... and still no popups ... so I'm back to happy

So now I'm thinking that Apple fixed this issue in iOS 8.4 ... and the 1 time popup triggered the OS to isolate and block this virus, on my device.

Hanging on to that thought for now anyway ... but wanted to relay this message, in case it alleviates someone else's pain.

    Good luck,

    F.

Same problem. When running the voice control comes on even when I turn off Siri..etc etc. If apple had good running ear buds I'd get them. Please fix this!!!

Well just got my iPhone 6 and tested the iOS version 8.1 or something. When in general>accessibility>accessibility shortcuts, i turned voice control on. That was it!!! From that point the iPhone felt like it was possessed!! Any attempt to switch voice control off was a failure so not only that the voice control was repeating every thing i was doing like reading full menu locations, but the menu navigation was a nightmare. i had to first select the submenu, the voice would read it out, scrolling was ONLY possible with 3 fingers in this mode and was very faulty, and to advance in the menu structure you had first select something and then double tap on anything. When i finally got to voice over in one section of the menu, i turned it off and it turned back on immediately all by itself. All that with double taps and with the voice reading every single thing, stating the full menu location loud without being able to turn it lower.

So, for me, that's it with apple products. This is unacceptable. I even went to general > reset > reset all settings, all going through double taps with the voice confirming every action i was doing in detail and the iphone restarted with all the voice singing to me over and over again. That was the most annoying experience i ever had with any electronic device. So the reset all settings didn't do it! why's that? So then i had to go for the next available choice which was Erase all content and settings, and that did it. Thank you apple for the amazing experience. I will never go through that again and i almost fear now buying a new product from you.

You turned on Voice Over not Voice Control. As you see a big differnce. To turn Voice Over off just ask Siri to do it.

I switched headphones and the random voice control override stopped. I'm now using Panasonic HJE12 earbuds and I think the old ones were skull candy. Hope that works for you.

This still happening for me with IOS 9.0.1.  I've tried all the tricks mentioned in the thread with no success.  I'm about ready to dropkick this phone and get a Galaxy.

I have the same issue on iPhone 5s, using stock Apple earbuds, with iOS 9.0.2.

Siri is turned off. Voice dial is tuned off. Issue persists.

This issue is new since upgrade from iOS 8.

NO question about it this is a major issue.  I have an iPhone6 and am upgraded all the way to iOS 9.1.  Voice Control has demon-possessed my iPhone, in fact that as I'm writing this post, it keeps going on and off, won't let me access my apps, even to look up Settings and try to fix.  It happens both WITH and WITHOUT headhpones and regardless whether music is playing or not.

Seems it may be a hardware issue as it begain happening after I had some issues with a portable music player jack (and then headphones) but frankly I don't think they are related.  Seems hardware related for sure.  Also, now my phone has trouble, answering, listening, hearing interruptions - a SOUND cluster f...  Complete disaster.

Wish I had a solution, but here's mine: going to get a new iPhone.  Fortunately I purchased insurance, but this should be a warranty thing and non-issue.  My phone is only a few months old!

Apple needs to fix this and do a "recall" so everyone who has a legit issue can get new phones.

I don't think it's a problem with headphones.  i use the Apple headphones.  For me this problem developed and then got much much worse with the last two IOS updates.  It seems to be a software bug.  Is Apple going to address this???

For working-out, listening to music, I was using my iPhone 6 with some crap old ear buds for months with no problem.  Then last week, boom, voice control comes on beeping away in the middle of a song, skipping ahead to the next song.  Then next thing I know the screen is showing "Controle Vocale".  Then Siri is talking to me in Italian.  ***?  Temporary answer was timeless:  Reboot the phone.  Worked for a while.  Then the beeping and song skipping came back.  Even rebooting doesn't help anymore.  Will try new ear buds.  Hard for me because normal ear buds don't fit me very well.  When I find a pair that fit, I stick with them for all they're worth.

Apple, how do I hate thee.

    Let me count the ways...
