Q: I can't share photos via email after loading El Capitan

Loading new OS and just noticed that in Photos, the mail, messages, fb, twitter... options are not available under the Share menu when trying to share photos. I'm in Photo library or Album as instructed but only have the option of iCloud Sharing, Set Desktop Picture and More (which is nothing good).

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Check System Preferences > Extensions > Share Menu.

Yes. I installed El Capitan a couple of weeks ago and everything appeared to be working great. I hadn't used iPhoto much but yesterday we had a new upload album of photos and went to share one and noticed this.

My share menu in System Preferences>Extensions says "You have not installed any extensions"

This is not normal, and is the cause of your issue.

I don't know how to fix this, other than suggesting you re-install El Capitan.  Something has occurred that is unusual about your installation.

Yeah, I go into system preferences and mail isn't there (everything else I want is) But there's no way to add mail. What do I do now???

Nothing in the information you provided would cause me to answer any differently than I did above.

part of mail setup can be accomplished in "Internet Accounts" pane.

the rest is done from inside Mail, using its own Mail > Preferences

I finally found the answer. The page below is exactly what I was looking for. Fixed my problem on the first try. Nothing else on here worked.

If Share options or Markup is missing after upgrading to OS X Yosemite or El Capitan

The Share menu might not show one or more sharing options—such as Email This Page, AirDrop, or Facebook—or the Markup feature might be missing.

Follow these steps if the issue occured immediately after upgrading to Yosemite or El Capitan.

    1. Open the Terminal app, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
    2. Type this command in Terminal:/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Framework s/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -seed
    3. Press Return and wait for the Terminal prompt—which ends in $—to reappear. It may take a few minutes.
    4. Quit Terminal.

You should now see the expected Share and Markup features. If not, go to Apple menu > System Preferences, click Extensions, and make sure that the Markup and sharing features are turned on in the Actions and Share Menu sections.

If another user account on your Mac has the same issue, log in to that account and repeat these steps.

We're getting somewhere! This didn't completely fix my issue but it did get more options in the Share menu. I did the terminal command and it added "notes" "messages" and "twitter" to the Share Menu. My extensions in System Preferences now has markup and sharing  (Actions, Share Menu and Today) now in my menu; however, mail is still not an option in my extensions or within photos with the share menu.

I can't email Photos either. I have tried the "Terminal" technique and have gone into Preferences, but my email (Entourage) has a gray checkmark, unlike the highlighted blue checkmark for Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Vimeo, etc.  I could sort of understand if it was an Entourage thing, but even Mail doesn't show up at all.

I can email from Photos when I'm on my iPhone. Just not on my MacBook Pro with El Capitan. Never had this problem before.

    Thanks.

The "Terminal" solution worked for me but ONLY after I had opened Mail and made it my Default email reader (under Mail/Preferences/General). As soon as I selected Thunderbird then lo & behold the Mail sharing option disappeared again!!

I tried the terminal solution- still cannot access images or upload any to FB. I haven't tried downloading new images from my camera to my computer yet. I have a feeling it's going to go well.
