Q: iDVD does not work in El Capitan

When I try to run iDVD in El Capitan it crashes while trying to load. The Console gives me this:

 

10/21/15 12:29:15.952 PM iDVD[1219]: -[NSFont length]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1d166a0

 

Anyone know what this problem might be, and how to fix it?

 

My business depends on this!

Did you obtain iDVD from an iLife disk?  Is there a crash report?  If so post the first 50 lines of it.

    For me, iDVD will load and run fine. It crashes during the encoding process when attempting to burn. Is there anything I can do to "fix" that?

    You have an encoding/multiplexing issue.  See Bengt Wärleby's post in this topic: Multiplexing Error

     

    Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:

    Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.

     

    To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.

     

    Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

    The option key worked!

     

    Just out of interest, what does the option key do. I guess it resets something that has been corrupted.

    The option key takes you to the general opening window and avoids the last opened project.  The project file that was set to open when you launched iDVD may have been damaged and that was causing the problem.

    Thank you! Holding the Option key solved it for me, too, and I would never have tried that save for your comment.
