Q: iCloud and iOS 9.1 issues

iPad Air 2 and a 5C, both running 9.1 (13B137).

NO network issues. 4.9 GB available on Cloud.

Backup screen states Last Backup: Never

Tap Back Up Now button, screen flickers, then restates Last Back Up: Never

Performed the standard Apple support steps provided by Apple on-line techs, same with in-store techs, but after showing representatives at store. They notes it had not been seen before. I proceeded to show them on Google where customers are having same issue.

iCloud servers are up and running per Apple. This is not a device error, nor operator error, as I am the Admin for all mobile environment at company (1500) devices

WE have performed soft - hard resets, manufacture resets, shut applications down one by one in backup.

*****Performed manufacture reset on both iPhone 5C, and iPad 2 Air. Installed 9.0.1, and backup were able to be completed.

Apple support and techs at store have no clue why, but this is impeding on our ability to perform our daily job.

***If Apple responds to this discussion, please do not send me your generic checklist, asking me to see if I have WiFi ability, iCloud storage space, and your misc.

The only change to my hardware is the backup performed before the upgrade, the upgrade itself, and the ability to not use iCloud to back up sensitive information.

This is not an OE situation, it is a bug in the Operating System. Please advise with some usefull information to work with, and not the standard Apple checklist that has not worked.

Please...Do not take this as a harsh statement, but take this as a customer with IT knowledge, not one off the street with no knowledge.

iPad Air, iOS 9.0.2, iOS 9.1 (13B137)

Apple does not respond here. They do not participate in the forum. This is a user to user support forum. You mention iOS 9.1 on the devices. Is this a typo, or are you using the beta software? If the beta software, then this cannot be discussed on the public forum. You will have to use the information you got from the public beta site for reporting problems.

If this was a typo and you are using iOS 9.0.1, there is an iOS update available. If you have worked with Apple support, then I'm not sure someone here can provide you with anything much different to work with, especially since you have determined it to be an iOS issue.

To tell the truth I am in the same trouble. My last backup was made on the 16th of September the day before 9.0.1 And this is disgusting. As I have already tried all the steps like my collegue douglasfromnevada I can say we have real iOS and/or iCloud bug. Help us God to save our phones from being lost or damaged.

Well, unlike the OP, you have not provided any information about your issue or exactly what steps, except all the steps. What version of iOS are you on right now? What happens when you attempt to make an iCloud backup? Have you tried an iTunes backup? Do you have sufficient storage space in iCloud? While I do not use it on a regular basis, I do use it occasionally, and just used it a couple of weeks ago when I got my new iPhone 6s. I backed up my 5s and restored the 6s from that backup.

When doing your troubleshooting, have you seen an error. If so, what is the text of the error?

Well when I try to make a backup in iCloud I perma receive this message - the  backup could not be completed. I have 150 Gb of free space. iTunes backup is working properly. And I can make iCloud backups on my iPad mini 2 and iPhone 5 operating on each of 9.0.1, 9.0.2 and 9.1. But I always have this problem with my iPhone 6 since 9.0.1. Today I installed 9.1. Still the same.

The steps I have already made: turn on and of iCloud backup, log out and in with my apple ID, reset the settings on the iPhone, restore via iTunes and my last iTunes backup, switched off all the applications and turned them on one by one in order to find the broken app. Nothing

So you have been able to backup with iTunes. If you turn iCloud backup on and attempt to backup to iCloud, you get the "could not be completed message". What other troubleshooting have you tried? Since I cannot be sure of what you have done, this support document provides troubleshooting steps for iCloud backups. Get help backing up your device in iCloud - Apple Support

If that does not help, have you tried deleting the iCloud backup that exists and try again. This should not affect your data, since you already have an iTunes backup.

The only thing from the list you provided that I had not done before my call to Apple Support - the full restore via iTunes. And of course they told me to try this operation. You know the result. And yes, the existed backup was successfully deleted with the help of my iPhone 5 only. As you can see all the facts point to a real software or server problem.

Well, I cannot say for certain that it is an iOS or server problem. Many others are doing their iCloud backups without any issue. You restored to factory. From there, did you attempt to backup before adding any additional content, or did you restore your backup? If you change the setting in iTunes to an iCloud backup and check your device, then try a manual backup in iCloud?

Checking server status, http://www.apple.com/support/systemstatus/ there is no issue with iCloud reported.

As the problem is not massive nobody will change the server status to even yellow

The step with changing backup setting and manual try did not help.

When I restored the firmware I successfully performed the backup. Then I just left the phone on the table for half an hour. I was really surprised to see that message about "... last backup...". That was before restore from my iTunes backup.

So, you are saying that you successfully backed up the device? I'm getting confused now. Just to check, I enabled iCloud backup on my iPhone and it is performing a backup.

I am also backing up to iCloud (iPhone 5S, IOS 9.1) with no issue.

I say that I have made a successful backup only once after restore. then I did nothing with the phone and started the backup once again in a half an hour. And then received that error message. It was on 9.0.1 then, many days ago.

Why not? My other apple devices do the same with no issue.

All I said was that I have no problem backing up to iCloud. As a question regarding my statement "Why not" is meaningless.

So you say that you reset settings, do you mean the reset all settings? But you say that after restore to factory, without adding back any content a backup was successful. Then you restored from iTunes a backup and the problem came back? So the issue returned after restoring a backup from iTunes after being able to create a backup after restore to factory? If that is the case, then I would say there is something in your backup that is preventing it from being successful.
