Q: iTunes 12.3.1.23 breaks iTunes store

Just installed 12.3.1.23 and now the iTunes store just presents a scrambled banner across the top and a black screen.  You can briefly see the correct screen as it loads but then is blanked out.  Clicking on the banner brings up Demi Lovatos new album but the screen is completely scrambled.  Win 7.1 (64), nVidia with latest driver.

Are synagence and Bill Lam running 64 bit like ejpeiker? Has anyone tried the "for older video cards" version? There's a direct link in the Further information section of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

Yes I tried the "for older video card version" on 12.3.1.23, it does not resolve the problem.  I too hoped that this might solve it but it does not and the video cards we are using are current models.  Even on 12.3.0.44, the mirroring of the album display when clicking on albums in the iTunes music store occurs with both the regular and "for older video cards" versions.

You could provide feedback directly to Apple via the iTunes Help menu or perhaps post at https://forums.geforce.com/, I don't see anything there.

That is a good idea however there is no evidence that it is actually a GEFORCE driver issue especially since older versions of iTunes 12.3 work fine, it is just a theory based on the screen's behavior that Apple implemented something in the last release of iTunes that is incompatible with the video driver and so far it seems like only Windows users with nVidia cards are affected.

I have the exact same issue as you ejpeiker and I am using an AMD Radeon R9 290X with the latest driver so I think you're right, it's not a GPU-specific problem.

Thank you, that is good to know.  IT is clearly an Apple problem then.

From another thread, this is a good workaround.  This appears to only happen in full screen maximized mode.  If you just reduce the size of iTunes on the screen just slightly, the problem immediately goes away.  Not a complete solution but it does work in bot 12.3.0.44 for the screen mirroring issue when looking at individual albums and the black screen issue in 12.3.1.23.

Thanks for that workaround. It does work to a certain point but I had to reduce the size of the window by quite a bit. I dare say Apple will release a fix soon enough for it. I wonder if it's also an issue with screen resolution/size. I am running 2560x1440 but maybe smaller resolutions get away with it more?

Yes, in 12.3.0.44 you only need to reduce it very slightly for things to return to normal.  In 12.3.1.23 you need to reduce it dramatically - down to 1850x1450 or smaller.  It looks like nobody ever checked this thing out on large monitors before releasing it.

It also seems, on my system, if you keep the iTunes Window at a 4:3 aspect ratio (like it's 1995) you can make the window much bigger than if you use a more modern aspect ratio like 3:2 or 16:9 for the iTunes Window.  Weird bug!

I have the exact issue also since the new update. I've confirmed changing my resolution to 1920x1080 (normally run 2560x1440) fixes it. I also can fix it by running iTunes in a box. This is definately an iTunes issue not a graphics card problem. Seems ridiculous with 2K & 4K screens being more & more popular that Apple didn't check for this problem before release!

Just attesting to the evidence here that I'm suffering from the same issue with
GTX 970 GPU and latest drivers

    Win 10 64bit

All the same issues described in this thread.

~ Another drop in the bucket

Edit: Also, just curious if anyone here has had playback issues since installing/upgrading to Win 10? I doubt it since my playback issues are even stranger (random interruptions of playback, for any amount of seconds, up to a minute); you might say I'm grasping at straws to solve my other issue here.

" Seems ridiculous with 2K & 4K screens being more & more popular that Apple didn't check for this problem before release!"

Unfortunately this is a common problem with Apple updates where there are always seem to be some kind of bug in the software that you'd think would've been spotted before release and hasn't been fixed. The exact same thing happens very often with their incessant iOS updates but has a really bad effect on many of your apps no longer working.

They'll be aware of the screen/graphics problem mentioned here and will release yet another update soon which will no doubt come with a brand new problem that needs fixing. The joys of using Apple products!!

I experienced the same problem with my screen going black. I reduced the window size to about a third of my screen, and I can now see the store. I'm using Windows 10 Professional.

I also had the problem reported in other posts with mirroring when opening an album in the last version of iTunes. The title and album art mirrored and cover the buy button and songs. I don't see it now, but I'm not sure if my smaller screen fixed the issue or if the trouble is gone.

You will likely find that the smaller window size will also fix the mirroring issue.
