Q: iOS9 Airdrop to Mac not working

Trying to connect iPhone 6+ iOS9 to 2013 iMac OS X 10.10.5 via Airdrop but not showing up on iMac or iPhone, worked perfectly before iOS 9.

iPhone can Airdrop to another iPhone and iMac can Airdrop to another Mac, but not iPhone to/from Mac.

iOS update was originally done OTA and have reinstalled through iTunes.

Have tried all suggestions I have come across but still they won't connect.

Anyone have similar problems?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), 21.5 in 2.9GHZ i5 16 GB

Yes, I updated my iPhone to iOS 9.1 this morning and also updated my Macbook to the newest El Capitan version and now it's working again!

    It definitely took long though.

I have updated my MBA 13''(2014) to the OS X 10.11.1 and my iPhone 6 to IOS 9.1 but airdrop still not working.

i have restarted both devices and nothing.

    They can't see each other.

I have just updated to OS X 10.11.1 and my iPhone 6 is still in 9.0.2. Now I can finally do airdrop between my mac Pro and my iPhone. I think that those that still can't airdrop after updating OS X is for reasons differents.

Guys, I just update my MBP to 10.11.1, my iPhone 6+ to 9.1 then AirDrop now working again. Like Farshad said, it seem faster to search and transfer compare to previously.

But in these update info Apple didn't mention on the AirDrop issue at all, is that Apple don't admit this is an issue cause by software update?

Im running MBP Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013 El Capitan OSX 10.11 with iPhone 6 iOS 9.1

Before El Capitan updated, AirDrop was very temperamental but worked occasionally. Now, airdrop does not work at all.

    Very frustrating!

Wonder if someone from Apple can respond with a solution!

MacMini (late 2012, i5, 16gb) ElCap 10.11.1 => iPad (gen4 on 9.1) good, but not the other way. or anyway with iPhone 6 on 9.1

iMac (late 2012, i7, 32gb) ElCap 10.11.1 = no joy with either iPad or iPhone.

    Very frustrating!!!!

I lost bluetooth & airdrop between my iPhone 6 & iMac when IOS9 was released. I spent many hours on the phone to Apple who even though they screen shared etc & thoroughly checked all setting on everything & tried every possible fix could not get either working nor could they offer any solution. Gutted. I was told that 9.1 would fix - it didn't, i was told El Capitan would fix it - it didn't...I was told that 9.2 would fix this - it hasn't....well miffed off.

Annoying thing is I can airdrop other people when I'm out & about & I can't even transfer to my own iMac!!!!!!!

I have MBA Mid2012 - El Capitan with latest software update - and iPhone 5c and iPad Mini, both with latest OS.

Like so many other of the previous comments, I too could Airdrop between both IOS devices and my Mac with Yosemite installed - never with total consistency, but most times.

Since El Capitan, it just doesn't work.

I'm astonished that some people have said that since installing latest updates all works ok. How can that be ? Why not for all if it was a simple software bug that was fixed with an update ?

I find it staggering that a company like Apple cannot realise or do not acknowledge that there is a problem - a huge problem out there with Airdrop. Surely it's not beyond their vast and presumably capable resources to produce a fix quickly.

Oddly, whenever I Airdrop between my iPhone and iPad then the iPad appears on the MBA screen - just the iPad and NOT the iPhone - never !!

What on earth is going on !!!!!

MBPr 15 inch late 2013 (El Capitan 10.11.1) and iPhone 6S Plus (iOS 9.1). AirDrop now works blazingly fast with a near 100% consistency. I hope it stays that way.

Let's start from the beginning. After updating to El Capitain (MBA 13''2014) and IOS 9 (Iphone 6) the airdrop stop working. After updating to OS X 10.11.1 and IOS 9.1 air drop kept not working. My wife has a MBA 13'' 2015 that was not updated yet to El Capitain. Yesterday I tested my iPhone 6 with her MBA and the airdrop was working. So I concluded that the problem now was in my MBA with OS X 10.11.1. After reading a post about this issue I found the following tip:

    1. Turn off Bluetooth on your Mac
    2. Delete /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
    3. Turn Bluetooth back on

I did that and my airdrop is woking again. Thanks AlexWoodblock for the tip.
