Q: Airdrop missing after upgrade

Im on an Mac Pro (Early 2008), and I used Yosemite and Airdrop just fine. Now suddenly after upgrading to El Capitan I cant find airdrop or how to enable it.

Is it possible they removed support for my model? I dont understand why if so because it worked before just fine.

    Hey tomstitzer,

I understand that you don’t see AirDrop in your Finder sidebar after upgrading to El Capitan. You may want to check your Finder preferences to make sure that AirDrop is still set to appear in your Finder sidebar:

    Sidebar

Show these items in the sidebar

Select the items you want to see in the Finder sidebar.

These items also appear in Open and Save dialogs.

Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!

According to Use AirDrop to send content from your Mac - Apple Support a Early 2008 Mac Pro is not compatible.

Do you mean MacBook Pro? An early 2008 MacBook Pro is not compatible either.

Look in System Information to see which MacBook Pro you have.

You're exactly right Duane. I found that too when I tried searching for answers.

However, Airdrop DID work when I was using Yosemite. I had it in the sidebar and in the menuba. I dropped pics and docs back and forth no problem. I fear that they decided to MAKE my model incompatible with the new update which is too bad. I'm hoping by downgrading back to Yosemite maybe it'll work like it did before. I mean OBVIOUSLY I had the capability before. $ucks that it had to be taken away.

    Duane and Braden,

Please permit me to facepalm myself and invite you both to facepalm me as well or smack me upside the head. I am 40 but didnt think my memory was going THAT quickly. I have a MacMini, newer model, maybe 2-3 years old at most. It was my main machine here in my little bedroom office. I finally decided a few months ago to get my MacPro working again. Was attempting to sell it because I didnt really need it but decided to let my children 6 and 8 have the macmini for their stuff. And so I would use the MacPro. Aaaand like I said, Airdrop and my wifi, they worked perfectly and I used them all the time. All. The. Time.

    ON MY MINI.

Which is not in this bedroom. Not in my office. THIS is my MacPro.

I forgot I switched the computers out.

    I. FORGOT.

    DOH.

Thanks both of you for attempting to help. I'm an idiot.

I'm glad that you got it figured out.

BTW, if you post again with a Mac Pro issue please post in the Mac Pro area. This is the MacBook Pro area.
