Q: Searching in Contacts doesn't work after iOS 9.1 update

Hello,

I've just updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 9.1 and since then I can't search any contact in my Phone/Contacts apps. I have tried many things like switching on/off spotlight search for contacts+couple of restarts, but it still does not work.

I really don't want to factory reset my iPhone due such a stupid bug.

Does anybody else have the same issue as me?

I have like 15 contacts starting with "po", this is the result of the bug:

Try to reset your device. This won't delete your data stored on this device.

    • Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button
    • Press and hold on the Home button
    • Keep holding both buttons until the display turns off and back on with Apple logo on it.

Alternatively, you may go to Settings - General - Reset - Reset All Settings

If these steps don't work, contact Apple and ask for help.

    Thanx a lot D.Cohen!

Reset All Settings solved my issue. I've just setup everything again from the scratch and my iPhone works again like a charm :-)

I will do that after every major update in the future - just in case.

You are welcome! I'd also recommend to backup your device before upgrading to newer iOS versions. This will allow you to save your data in case something goes wrong.

Same with me, same problem, same solution. But its a pain tough - to set everything again.

    Hi, All,

I had the same issue. As my contacts were synced with Google, disabling sync and enabling it back solved the problem for me.

    regards

Both Google contacts desync and the reset of all setting DON'T WORK!!! because once contacts window is closed and than reopened the problem persists.

Also the hitting 'Done' for the groups is only a TEMPORARY solution.

Try to Close the contacts app and reopen. Same problem again

    Yay! This worked!

I did the full reset and that worked. Then as I was configuring setting, a few hours later, that solution stopped working again.

So I didn't want to do another full reset as it was a major pain. Read back through this thread and found the much easier option of hitting 'Done' for the groups.

For the record, I'm on ios 9.1 on an iPhone 6s using exchange for my contacts and email. I was also having the email search problem along with the email count problem on iOS 9. The update seems to have fixed the count problem but I had to delete the account and re add it to start from zero. The email search is working a little better now.

For those still having problems even after trying these fixes, search still works from the main search window. The screen to the left of the home screen. It's a pain. But at least there is a work around until apple fixes for everyone.

Thanks to SCRJS for this easy fix for me!

I don't really agree on that, because in my case there are no "Groups" in Contacts - I have only iCloud contacts so I couldn't turn anything off and on again. In my case Resetting All Settings really helped. I know it's quite painful to set everything back again, but it didn't take so long - I was fully back in less than an hour.
