If you don't know the model, find the Serial# & use it on one of these sites, but don't post the Serial# here...

I am having the same problem with my Mac Pro 2.66 GHZ early 2009.
What should I do?
I tried to restart in target mode, not success. Screen is still dark.
Computer was acting up in past few weeks, spinning beach ball last night.. restarted it, was fine until this morning I had red light on the bottom of tower.

If you can get it running again...
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem & the Startup right after that for clues.
Click on the top line we want, Shift plus click on the bottom line we want, CMD+c to copy, then paste the text in a reply with CMD+v
A few dozen lines should be about right, hundreds or thousands won't likely be readable.
