Q: why are certain apps not backed up to computer

I have no less than 16 apps from about 150 on my iPad which are not backed up to my computer, i.e. they are not to be found in users/me/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Applications. This in spite of the fact that I have been regularly making backups and syncing my entire iPad from day one. Since apps you bought are not downloadable again I now have lost all those apps since I cannot install them on my new iPad. Is there a solution?

As long as the apps are still available in the App Store and you use the same Apple ID, you can download them again for free.

Download past purchases from iTunes - Apple Support

The reason that apps are not being backed up now has something to do with app thinning. Take a look at the first paragraph I here.

You need to get into the habit of updating all apps within iTunes itself on your computer now. I believe that will load the apps into your iTunes library.

Hi,

We normally don't download apps in itunes. We download in iPhone appstore. When backing up the iPhone in itunes, it was being copied to iTunes automatically. But, now newly downloaded apps in the iPhone are not getting copied in the iTunes.

What should i do to have the newly downloaded apps(in my iPhone) in my iTunes..?

The best way to insure that the apps end up in you iTunes library is to set iTunes to download apps automatically when downloaded to the phone.
Turn on Automatic Downloads - Apple Support

You can always download apps again in iTunes if they are not already in your library.
Download your past purchases - Apple Support
