Q: Original owner of iphone 6 locked the device. and then disappeared. Several weeks of searching = zip. How do I unlock the phone?

1. I purchased an iPhone 6 from a person. took the phone to AT&T to get service and was told:

2. Original owner of iPhone 6 locked phone with Findme, and wrote that she lost the phone and included her phone number to contact.

3. a dozen calls to her number are answered, "This party is not accepting calls." This is the typical auto response from a carrier after they suspend an account.

4. All efforts, including law enforcement, have not located her.

5. 5 text messages have not been answered, but were not returned, as when the phone number is dead.

6. Law enforcement says that the original owner must release the lock, otherwise the phone will never become operational.

What to do?

Nothing you can do really. As you were told, it's up to the original owner to release activation lock when they sell their device. If they did not do so before they sold it, and you failed to check when you bought it, then you're stuck until or unless you can contact them.

From your post, it sounds like the person who sold it was not the original or legitimate owner of the device?

There is nothing that you can do. You are stuck with a useless iPhone. You will never, ever be able to unlock it without the original's owner's cooperation.

Every time that I read one of these discussions where the original owner can't be contacted, will not cooperate, forgot their ID and password or fell off of the face of the earth, that is the very thought that runs through my mind.

Why wouldn't a person that legitimately owned the phone want to cooperate and erase the device if asked to do so? The only way that I can answer that is because they stole the phone, or know that it is stolen.

correct, he was not, and he too has disappeared and won;t answer his phone. I gps'd his phone, located in a very small community. When I told local law enforcement and described his 2013 camaro, the officer replied. That will be easy to find; no one around here has a 2013 anything.
