Q: cannot reset my iPad

I get this message when I try to login from my iPad Air with iOS 9.1:

Verification failed. Your apple id or password is incorrect.

My password is not incorrect, as I can log in successfully online and from my other devices.

I cannot reset my iPad because it asks for my password which it will not accept!

How can I get my iPad to accept my correct password?

iPad Air, iOS 9.1, Model MD786LL/A

By reset, I assume that you mean you want to erase it. Try a forced restart and then see if your password is accepted. To force restart your device, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home button for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Yes, I did try to erase it, but it requires the password to do so. Also, restarting the device as you suggested still did not allow my iPad to accept my password.

In fact, if I go through the "I forgot my password" process on the iPad,  and give it a new password, and then enter that password, it is still not accepted!

I checked the keyboard settings, and they look correct. I can't figure this out.

Are you able to download content with the new password, or update apps? I Know that this sounds bizarre, but did you try signing out in the settings, restart the iPad then sign in again?

I cannot download any updates to the apps since it will not accept my password. I did try, but I cannot sign out of iCloud because it asks for my password to turn off the "Find My iPad" setting and won't accept my password. If I cancel turning this setting off, it also cancels the signing out from iCloud.

I'm not sure what else to tell you other than to get in touch with Apple about this. This is sort of a generic catch all support site for Apple ID and password issues. Go here, select your region and follow the path that best suits the problem.

So out of the blue last night after midnight, it just decided to accept my password. I did not change anything to make it work. It just randomly happened and now I can receive updates, and stay signed in with my Apple ID. Weird.

Yes, but I've seen weirder, I'm glad to hear it's working for you again.

I certainly don't know how to explain this behavior. I still believe that contacting Apple via the link that I posted above would be a good idea. There could be something funky going on with your account that they might be able to fix.

I called Apple and after going back and forth with several technicians over the span of a few weeks, it finally just decided to work and has now worked for over a week.  I have no explanation why my Apple ID password would work all of a sudden one day. They must have done something on their end to make it work.
