Oct 22, 2015 9:52 AM in response to MysterE2by andigital,I wouldnt update to 12.3.1 if possible as this version has made things much worse. Spinning beach ball will be your worst nightmare and iTunes is no longer usable. I've got a 27" iMac with 16Gb of ram and even with no other Apps open would not work

Oct 22, 2015 10:53 AM in response to Cedric Frenetteby Steve Denton,Mine's actually been getting worse during the day.
Now iTunes freezes at the end of each song, for a couple of minutes, and several times in between. It's becoming absolutely unusable. Not in that I'm ****** off with iTunes generally, like some, just that it doesn't do what it is supposed to do - play music.
As a fair proportion of the songs I can't now play are only on Apple Music, I think they owe us money for the time when we can't use the service they're taking our money for.

Oct 22, 2015 2:25 PM in response to Cedric Frenetteby MysterE2,I am so frustrated waiting for the beachball to stop that I downloaded an older version of iTunes but it refused to install unless I deleted the newer problematic version. I am afraid what info and items it would take with it.
The problem seems to be around icloud, which it insisted i log into once El Capitan was installed. i do not store my large library of music on the cloud and I think that is the hangup partially.
Help Apple, iTunes has been a big pro for Mac, and I am jonesing for it now!

Oct 22, 2015 6:04 PM in response to wendyfromhoustonby mmmrtnn66,Any news, Wendy? Now my computer (after running an upgrade on both El Capitan and iTunes to bring them up to date) has the same issues you guys have been describing. What a nightmare. I regret ever changing over to El Capitan.

Oct 23, 2015 3:56 AM in response to mmmrtnn66by michy_lee,Hi!
Same big problem.
After last updates (El Capitain 10.11.1 & iTunes 12.3.1), iTunes doesn't works anymore (reboot, force quit. Everything is unuseful...).
It is not possible in 2015 to have a computer that can't play your own music...
Apple, please fix this issue!
Thanks.

Oct 23, 2015 5:32 AM in response to michy_leeby JoeySartin,Greeting all,
I've been having a similar problem but my symptoms have been: open iTunes, dock icon bounces but a window doesn't open. I discovered that iTunes was actually running by hitting the 'play' button on my keyboard.
So, no exactly everyone else's problem, but still a major annoyances. I tried a little of everything: re-installed 12.3, re-installed an older version, permission repairs, shutting off/re-starting iCloud sync, Nothing worked. I installed the El Capitan 10.11.1 and iTunes 12.3.1 on Wednesday and again tried to open iTunes and still had the same problem. I left iTunes running (?) and this morning the iTunes window was open and working.
I'm going to speculate that the 12.3.1 update had a fix but had to re-build the library, or something, before began working.
Install the update, open iTunes and give it some time before you try something else.
Good luck everyone.

Oct 23, 2015 7:29 AM in response to Cedric Frenetteby MysterE2,Left itunes running overnight and it loads, but if you touch anything in the app, a "not responding" cycle starts again for endless minutes making the music unusable. Come on Apple, retreat to a version that works while you fix this!

Oct 24, 2015 4:35 PM in response to Cedric Frenetteby lizzysaurus,Add me to the list of frustrated El Capitan users. Installed today and now my iTunes is a completely unusable mess. I have a lot of music and don't want to mess about deleting and downloading iTunes again, which only ever causes problems.
THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED APPLE! Sort it out!
iTunes is my only way to play music - I don't have Spotify or anything else. And I also can't update my iPad until this is fixed.
From the looks of this thread, the problem has been going on for three weeks now. I know Apple have started doing their OS updates for free, but seriously, I would rather pay and have them work properly than get them free and be stuck with a non-functional computer :/

Then i've reinstalled iTunes 12.3.0 *************

Oct 24, 2015 5:36 PM in response to michy_leeby lizzysaurus,Thanks! You just saved me £25 worth of a call with Apple Support. This worked for me (so far so good cross fingers touch wood pray to all gods) and as a thank you some imaginary but very tasty chocolate cupcakes are winging their way to you over the interwebs

Oct 25, 2015 9:36 AM in response to Cedric Frenetteby John Moon,Same or similar problem. I tunes play but the user interface hangs stops at say 4 second and doesn't pick up the next song until 34-40 second later on the interface. Beach ball of death frequently Haveto allow massive amounts of time to load and find the iTunes library
Happen right after the latest El Capitan Update.
