Demo, I am very grateful to you & others who contributed info for me.  How do I give you a 5 star thank you?  I was successful in downloading several old country, like Keith Whitley (great) last night.  But this am I had another question - how to play what I downloaded w/o clicking on 'play' each song. . ..You'll be proud of me (I hope) I figured it out.  But now I have two other questions:  How do I stop the music playing - I turned the phone off and it still continued, tried several other things, still playing.  So I shut down the phone, and that worked.  Also, I still need to ck on this, but will ask while I'm here - will the music I selected on iphone sync to the PC or do I need to sync it.  Also there's something listed in my playlist I didn't order, can I get rid of it?  So many problems!!  But I am learning - the problem now is retaining what I learned.  (Am loosing short-term memory sorry to say).  Thank you all again, Trish

You can stop the music from playing a couple of ways. One way is to completely close the music app. This is how you can force close any app.

Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps. Swipe left to find the app you want to close. Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

The other way to stop the music from playing is to swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to the control center. Tap the pause control and the music will stop. Tap the arrow at the top to hide the control center again.

will the music I selected on iphone sync to the PC or do I need to sync it.

If you turn on automatic downloads in iTunes on your computer, any music that you download on the phone will download to iTunes on your computer. You can also use the transfer purchase feature to transfer the songs into iTunes from the phone. I gave you links to both of those support articles on the first page of this thread.

Also there's something listed in my playlist I didn't order, can I get rid of it?

I don't quite understand what you mean here, but I assume that you mean that a song downloaded that you didn't specifically purchase. Is that correct? Can you provide more details?

Demo. first let me address the playlist item.  I can't find the screen I saw last night that listed artists & songs by them.  At the end was something I didn't recognize.  But I searched earlier and couldn't find that screen again.  Secondly, I'm sorry you keep repeating instructions to me.  I didn't get a chance to copy or click on either of the links you provided.  I will print this as my memory is not very good and reasoning is worse.  I did try closing out music app by tapping it on icon and it didn't work last night or this AM.  Music continued.  I'll try it again though.  Just tried tapping music app to close & music continued.  Tried Home quickly twice - see app to close - No- Did that one wrong too, goes to app screen.  Ok, the last one worked - swipe up to control center & pause - so I'll stick with that one.  I'll try your other suggestions again, cause I'm probably just not tapping it right way (nervous).  What else do I need to report on?  Oh, sync - I'm still working on that one - my computer is ?  well, how to describe it?  Anyway, I'll work on that too and go back to your links before I call it quits.  Pain aren't I?  It's hard to teach an old dog (senior dummy) new things.  But eventually we get there, hang in with me, please.  And thank you very much - everyone, Trish

Just so that you know, I am a senior as well. I just applied for social security. You can teach an old dog new tricks.

When you tap the home button twice, you should see all of the apps that you have recently used in the app swicter as it is called. You swipe left to right to don the app that you want to close. Swipe up on the preview screen of that app in order to close it.

This 'old dog' had SS when you were still dating your first love!!!  What do you need to know about Medicare - I've had that for ages too. Oh yea, try living on SS!  You better have a good retirement sum piled up.  Do you plan to retire or continue working?  Back to business - I've tried what you're saying - I just can't get the tapping & swiping right - not quick enough tapping or swipe too soft or hard, but this old dog has sore paws so I'll have to keep working at it.  Arthritis has badly deformed my fingers and both joints in all 10.  The pain/burning is bad especially at night.  Hopefully you missed arthritis.  Being you're being so kind to me and knowledgeable I'll ask you what I just asked my lady friend who is responsible for all the music downloading.  When music is playing and I get a phone call, does it override the music, or will I have to shut it off to hear the call (hearing is gone too!).  I just found the ear plugs I forgot about as I never needed them before.  Soon, you'll begin hearing the words 'Age appropriate' for whatever ails you, or whatever you forgot etc.  Welcome to seniorhood.  It is a great new world though, especially when you can learn new things.  So what if learning takes longer & we can't retain what we learned.  We have all day & no where to go to get it right.  Today is the tomorrow we worried about yesterday.  Make everyday different.    Demo, Thank you.  Am I checking the correct buttons for answers?  Thanx, Trish

I am just about to turn 62, so I guess you could say that I am a young senior, if that makes any sense at all. I will continue to work part time while collecting. My wife is several years younger than I am and has a good job with medical benefits and she has a fixed pension for life. No arthritis yet, but I have my own health problems that I am trying to deal with. Hopefully it will all work out for me.

Now back to business .... When you double tap the home button, are you seeing the apps like I showed in my screenshot? If you see the app previews like that, then you are halfway there. you just have to get the hang of swiping up on the little preview Windows to get the apps to close.

If music is playing and a call comes in, the music will mute while you are talking on the phone. It might be worth your while to download the user guide in the iBooks app. The guide is free.

Demo, I think t/b a senior actually starts earlier maybe late 50s.  But young senior will cover it, unless you'd prefer 'teenage senior'.  On my hand I am older than you by . . . .  years.  It's a great time in life for learning new things.  I took a disability retirement from workplace injury, so got medicare immediately.  But when you're 65, sign up for medicare even if your wife still has medical coverage.  Medicare doesn't cover everything and you'll still need a supplemental plan for what it doesn't cover, so keep your's or her's - workplace coverage seems better than the other supplemental plans out there.  Build up that retirement plan as much as you can, SS $ helps, but you certainly can't live on it.  There are other sources of $ in retirement like: investments, savings, pension, interest, etc, or working.  So if you or she really likes your job, keep on working or do part-time like you are doing.  Hopefully your health problems aren't to serious or debilitating and you can still do part-time, or find/learn something you enjoy more.

Back to problem child - me.  I got a message on my phone that it isn't backed up and I need t/b plugged in (which it is) and connected to Wi-Fi (which I can't).  Don't worry I searched around and know what to do, but have to 1) get to the charge plug - it's behind a file - then plug it into the computer; 2) sign into Wi-Fi - can't until I gather necessary info.  We use a router (Verizon) - I need it's IP, user ID, password, etc.  You get the idea - all that info my husband has in files somewhere (maybe).  Anyway, the best option w/b to retrieve the plug from behind the file cabinet UGG!  So will attempt that later, unless good football games are on today.  I have to sync computer when I get wall plug, too.

Also, I clicked on your link for manual/user book.  I think it's the one I downloaded when I first got this confusing 'smart phone'!  That book is so confusing!  Yes it has index and chapters for this or that, but when you get to what you want to do it refers you to a different page, which refers you to a different page.  So very frustrating - who wrote it anyway.  Also, in your link I didn't see an option for download.  Be well, be happy, Trish   -  I'm going to miss you when I get my music/phone problems solved.

We have some investments, IRA, 401K an annuity, so we will not be going on what we make on SS and the pension only. I know all about signing up for Medicare when I turn 65. I have heard some horror stories about the increased costs that people will have to pay for not signing up at 65, but I appreciate the heads up.

AS for backing up the phone, I think that you are talking about automatically ayncing with iTunes over WiFi, or maybe backing up to iCloud automatically. You need WiFi to backup to iCloud, but you can backup and sync with iTunes using the cable and you don't need WiFi to do that.

Hopefully this will help with backing up. Take a look.

I'm not sure what you are asking about "download". Maybe you can explain in a little more detail ... After all of the footbal games that is. I will be catching the Steeler game today. But I'll bet you could have guessed that!

Not the Dolphins?  My G what are you thinking - Steelers??  Just kidding, I do like them.  But aren't you impressed with the improvements in the Dolphins?  Yes, it remains to be seen if it'll continue.  I follow the Eagles too, being from NJ - but they are falling apart.  Need a good team to route for, think I'll try thr Giants, I like Eli & can see Payton's influence on little brother.  Yes, I do like football.    Yes, that's what I was getting at, if you don't sign up for Medicare when eligible there is that penalty.  It becomes your primary, which is good & they automatically fwd claims to your secondary so you literally don't need to do anything but show up for your DR apts!  Enjoy being 'a teen senior', but plan for a long full senior life and enjoy it.

I retrieved my wall plug for the phone, but haven't tried sync yet and got my router info, so wish me luck there too.   I think the phone meant backing up to icloud, but wasn't sure.  Why would the phone care if I sync'd with computer, wi-fi or not?   I may or not, haven't decided.  Not sure what you mean -what I was asking by 'download' in your last paragraph, but I was saying I'd downloaded the phone's manual, user guide (PDF) when I got the phone.   I might have meant the link you gave for 'How to back up your device . . . .' I looked at it and the 'download' button looked like it was for something else.  I went back & looked at the page, and think it is what I already have - the user guide I have downloaded, 250+ pages.  Sorry I am not clearer when I ask things.  I so appreciate the info you provide and the patience you have with providing it to 'dummies'  I guess I should be specific 'senior dummies'.  Thanx, Demo.

Demo, forgot to mention - that item in my albums I didn't recognize -  I sent a 'report a problem' to Apple.  It's a freebe from Apple & they explained how to get rid of it.  It was U2 Songs of Innocence - Rock.  If it were R&B I might keep it, but Rock - no way.  Getting rid of it, trust me.  Sorry about P'Berg, thought sure they'd make a come back.  Miami did good though - 2 weeks in a row - amazing reformation.  Hope they don't fall apart Thur in NE.  Enjoy, Trish
