Q: My phone showing calls from another phone on my account.

I have an iPhone 5.  There are four other phones on my account.  Phone calls from one of the phones (iPhone 6) are showing on my call log.  Today (for the first time) I even got a notification on my lock screen that I had 3 missed calls from someone actually calling the other phone.  (It did not actually ring my phone or leave an entry in my call history this one time!)

I checked settings to make sure I had not selected this other phone number, but that particular phone number did not even appear on the list!  That one phone is the only one leaving records of its calls in my call history.  Since it is the only phone not listed under the iMessage setting "You can be reached by iMessage at...", I feel like this might be a possible connection to the problem.

Any ideas?  Thanks!

This is the way it works now, and I agree that it is not optimal. I have not found a way to not share the recent call list between devices that have good reason to share an iCloud ID, such as multiple devices for one person. I have 2 iPhones and 2 iPads, and I WANT to share all of my iCloud drive data among them, because I routinely update Numbers, Pages and Keynote files on whichever device is in my hand at the moment, as well as sharing keychain entries, photos and other data. Personally, sharing the Recent call list doesn't bother me, but I can see that there are situations where you don't want this to happen. There needs to be a way to control this function separately from other data sharing. I haven't found one, so the best I can suggest is to submit feedback, and encourage others who have this need also submit it. http://apple.com/feedback.

OK so I finally reached Support.

It is a bug.  It happens when you turn on iCloud Drive.  When iCloud Drive syncs - you get the call logs merged...  That's why if anyone noticed it is not in real time.  At least on my iPhones - the call logs from other phones appear all at once and not one at a time in real time.

So the solutions are offered to me:

    1. Turn off iCloud Drive for all affected iPhones and see if that works for you - it did for me. You still have to edit the logs manually to delete unwanted entries.

    2. Get separate Apple ID's for all devices

    3.  Wait for a fix.

Interesting post Tanmail. It makes me wonder if Apple are clear what is causing the issue but nice to see that despite what others have posted in this thread, Apple have admitted that it is a bug

I experienced the same issue this weekend and I don't use iCloud drive and one of the devices is a 4s which doesn't use handoff so I had to look to see if it was something else. My icloud account is for just me so it wasn't a case of setting up another one for each device too.

I managed to narrow it down even further though after reading through these posts. I found that it was actually an iCloud issue and was down to the way the devices were set to automatically backup to iCloud. Someone in one of the other threads on this topic mentioned that Apple was now backing up call lists as well and it made me realise that not only does the phone backing up to icloud save the call lists, there is something in there that is restoring the call lists to other devices on the same icloud account.

I disabled the auto backup to icloud on everything and all devices now have their own individual call lists.

I will manually have to back each one up but I was connecting them once as week as I refresh my music on them so am not too worried about it. Plus pics are still shared / backuped up to icloud so I am not at risk of losing much.

Hmm - that might be related then.   It all goes back to some issue with iCloud and backup/storing to iCloud....  I will try your method too.  But I'm definitely not getting merged call logs with iCloud Drive off.

BTW I forgot to mention the last option Support gave me:  Restore to an earlier version of IOS like 8.0.1...

This happening to me on my MacBook Pro from my iPhone 6s...I turned handoff off on phone and turned off notifications on the computer, yet my computer "rings" and an alert about the call shows in top right hand corner of computer screen. Anyone know how to stop that?

When I first started using iPhone (v1) Apple support told me to share my Apple ID when I asked how to create a family calendar. I've been using it that way ever since (8+ years). The fact Apple enhanced the OS and added family sharing doesn't change that many of us use it that way. Turning off 'hand off', creating new Ida, etc may 'fix' the problem, but it creates a lot of work and change for me. I want it to work the way it has for years. Apple, please fix this bug (it is not a desired feature).  Include essential functionality up front and you can avoid these problems.

I respectfully disagree. It is a great feature that I use multiple times a day.

But you can't get Apple's attention by posting in this user-to-user forum. Apple is not here. To communicate with Apple use http://apple.com/feedback.

Thank you for the tip.  I chatted with Apple support and they provided me the iCloud online forum to suggest enhancements to iCloud.  With one apple id I've been sharing calendar, notes, contacts, find my iphone, and reminders across the family, and family sharing doesn't support all of these functions.  The enhancement in iOS 8.3 to sync calls and call logs across devices was made without considering the negative impact to all of us using one apple id all these years for shared calendars, etc (at their suggestion, btw).  So now the customer must compromise, and either lose native sharing functionality that we've enjoyed for years, or lose the ability to see that we've missed a call on our device (which is a phone feature, not an iCloud feature until very recently).  I'm going to request that they include all the iCloud functions in family sharing so that we can get the native sharing the device has supported since inception (apparently unintended and unplanned).

I totally agree. You can also add that it was possible to share the Photos library using a single ID. So to continue enjoying the whole photo library on several iPhones, I have to share the call history with my wife. Note that it could be useful :-) But anyway, it gives the feeling that Apple has forgot to think about all the consequence of this change.

TThis was my case too. My hand off was off,  my phone settings my sharing was off, so couldn't understand why the phone calls still showed up till you mention checking settings in face time. There it was a check by the other email account. Who would have thought to look there. Thanks. I hope other folks find this answer.

Great response. Our family has also been sharing our id and recently the phone call issue started up again. If we didnt, we'd be spending a small fortune on itunes and the app store purchases for all the multiple items we would have to buy. And dont tell me family sharing solves that. I've read all the reviews of the family sharing plan and it doesnt solve the problem. We have purchased thousands of dollars of music and apps over the years.

I Love the way you pointed out how rediculous his response to the find my iphone issue was. Lol.

So Has anyone figured out how to solve the call log issue on multiple devices yet?  Something changed in the icloud settings w the latest update it seems again.

Still isn't fixed, though. This drives me crazy, I've got seperate iPhones for work and personal use, so I'm not "sharing" my Apple ID. Missed calls "sync" between the phones so there is NO WAY of knowing to which phone number people have called. It's maddening! This HAS to be a bug, by no way can Apple INTEND that you cannot tell to which phone number a call came

If their intention really is that missed calls information is synced between devices, it must be clearly visible in the call history to and from which numbers the calls were made.

Thank you!!! Logging out of FaceTime resolved the problem.  (Stopping "Handoff" did not.)
