Q: iOS 4.3.5 error 9 when updating to 9.0.2

Dear Mac Experts,

I've been having issues updating my cousin's old iPad 2 WiFi (MC979ZP) from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. I keep having Error 9 whether I use DFU or any other method. Apart from that, Apple has also stopped signing all versions of Firmware prior to 9.0.2, therefore any older firmware is unusable (Error 3194 without fix even using System32). I was also trying firmware 8.4.1 and older firmware.

By the way, I've tried many different original cables and many different computers, both Mac and Windows, including the garbage bin.

According to Apple's HQ, this could be an "Untested Issue with latest iTunes and iOS9 having a negative effect on very old versions of iOS being upgraded to iOS9".

I'm writing here to seek help from you, if there is any other solution to this issue, and also to hopefully notify Apple's Support on this issue and hope they will fix it on their next version of iTunes.

Warmest Regards,

Mak ********

DONT EVEN TRY TO UPDATE   I updated a work iPad 2 from iOS 4.3.5, and since updating, the iPad LAGS ALOT . Webpages constantly reload, find my iPad doesn't work properly, and animations are really choppy. I wish I had 4.3.5 back and I strongly advise against updating just yet

There is a way to update to iOS 6 which is the best iOS for the iPd 2(search the web/youtube) although I can't talk about it since it goes against the Apple Support Communities rules

as I said above, don't even try to update, the iPad 2 is super laggy on 9.0.2/9.1, and a few apps isn't worth the performance decrease

I have iPad2, and it is better than ever (but old apps have to be updated too and sometimes are not even available).

    I do not believe you.

Indeed, not allowed. Better than this "method" that decapitates your iPad: buy a Samsung.

What is there to not believe? I connected it to the latest version of  iTunes on a mac running OS X 10.9 mavericks , and hit check for update (at the iOS 8.3 was the latest). I hit agree a few times , and it downloaded an installed, although iTunes.  somehow erased the music off the iPad during the process, so I had to restore from a backup. After that process, iOS 8.3 was installed, but running extremely slow. 2 weeks ago, I read that iOS 9 was supposed to improve performance.  so I installed iOS 9.0.2. It turns out that iOS 9 lags more than iOS 8. And I have a 64GB iPad.  I'm thinking of buying an iPad 2 running iOS 4.3.X and just use it &never update it

Lucky for you. We're talking about updating from 4.3.x to 9. It's not working. Heck, I'll trade you my iPad for yours. ;P

Sounds like I have exactly the same issue!!!!!

I have an IPAD 2, wifi, vintage 2011.  It had the original ios, 4.x.x, I went to the apple store yesterday to get help updating the IOS and the thing is so old that it (the IOS) doesn't support icloud.  I figured out how to download photos to my laptop (non apple) and also got the apps to backup (I think...) on iTunes, and sure enough when I went to update the IOS it crashed and burned and cannot restore or install any new IOS.  Anyone have this experience or any advice on how to recover?

I was thinking about giving the Ipad2 to my kid and getting an Ipad air for my wife for xmas, but really questioning whether I want another apple product.

    HELP!!

That app (below) absolutely worked!!! Wow, at least the Ipad2 is back up and running on the old IOS 4.3.5! Apps are still there and so are photos/videos

Thanks!!!!  Seriously this is not spam, I am paranoid about downloading free apps like that but this one has a ton of rave reviews and did the trick in about 3 clicks.

I had the same problem until yesterday.

I was trying update ipad 2 from 4.3.5 to 9.0.2. My iPad hung up on an apple logo (error 9).

After 2 sleepless nights I found this: http://www.tenorshare.com/products/reiboot.html

Just install and clik "exit recovery mode". I still can't upgrade to 9.0.2 but at least iPad is working

You have all people here to understand  that Apple does not want to use IPad more than 2 - 3 years. This is the only true.... Sorry about that
