Oct 11, 2015 11:55 AM in response to jrbabuby Ingo2711,★HelpfulAre you using iCloud to sync your contacts? If yes, try to disable syncing for contacts in Settings/iCloud, tap on "yes" if asked if you want to keep the contact info on the phone. Then try again to search for contacts like the way you did.
If this does not work, and to make sure that this is not software related, set it back to factory settings, without using any backup data afterwards. Set up the rest of the personal settings manually add some contact info and test the function again.
If the phone works as before the update, restore from the latest backup. If the problem comes back, the backup data contained corrupt data, causing your issues.
If it still does not work, the phone has to be checked by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support

Oct 11, 2015 2:47 PM in response to jrbabuby jrbabu,It seems that the data in the Contacts is corrupted. As you suggested, after resetting the phone, I did not back up any Contacts, and created a few entries into Contacts. I can type many characters in Search and the created addresses show up. The keyboard doesn't freeze, I don't know the nature of this corruption, but may be the Apple Genius guys can figure out. It also must have something to do with iOS 9.0.2, as this problem cropped up after downloading the software update.

Oct 12, 2015 2:32 PM in response to jrbabuby jmiles1,Hi, I have exactly the same prob. After two chars typed in contact search, system hangs....for up to 30-45 secs then suddenly frees up and any additional chars typed show and all well.
Did you solve how to get the contact data back to good again?
Thanks,
J

Oct 12, 2015 5:37 PM in response to jmiles1by jrbabu, jmiles, You've described the problem precisely. No, I've no luck after trying all kinds of resets, etc. I am going to the Apple Store in Atlanta on Thursday to get them to look at it.
Have solved your problem, if so, how?

Oct 16, 2015 8:14 AM in response to Ingo2711by jrbabu,Hi ingo2711,
I again followed your diagnostic procedure, and am concluding that the data in my Contacts file is corrupted. Apple Genius bar reset everything to no avail, and gave me the unhelpful comment that it is a software problem and did not offer any solution to the problem.
Question: if the Contacts data is corrupted, how does one un-corrupt it? Create a totally new Contacts list? Thanks.

Oct 16, 2015 9:20 AM in response to jrbabuby Ingo2711,You could try to export the contacts one by one by sending yourself the info via mail. But, the problem might be to figure out if the contact database is damaged as such, or "just" some contacts.
Exporting the contacts via mail and importing them again might take as long as creating a new list. If you decide to create a new list, you will be sure that no corrupt files will be imported. Could be some work, though.

Oct 28, 2015 3:24 AM in response to jrbabuby mian_bao,Im experiencing exactly the same problem on my iPhone 6, keyboard freezing in contacts when searching for a contact. Thanks for the fix suggestions above which I have not tried yet. One way to work around this problem in the short term is to use the dictation function on the keyboard which is as accurate as you can dictate it in. I use dictation function 80% of the time now to enter text on all my devices as it is really fast and accurate. Let's hope there's an update in the near future to fix this frustrating keyboard freezing glitch though...

Nov 5, 2015 5:42 AM in response to jrbabuby bucket101,All, I have the same problem and it clearly started with the new OS load.
Apple - Help ?
I have alternate search software on my phone called simply "Search" which also searches the notes sections of the contacts as well as the contact information itself. It seems to work fine but it is clearly annoying that Apples Contact Search fails to work properly now.
Anyone have a solution? None of the above seemed to work. It only happens went using or selecting the ICLOUD group. If you select an alternative group the problem with the 30-50 second pause after entering the first 2 characters does not occur.

Nov 5, 2015 8:59 AM in response to bucket101by jrbabu,bucket101, where does one find the alternate Search software you've mentioned? Thanks.

Nov 5, 2015 10:48 AM in response to jrbabuby bucket101,The advanced search is called "search - sophisticated contact search" and you can find it in the iTunes store under that name or search for "contact search" it is by "polar bear farm limited" and it comes in handy. Right now given that the normal contact search freezes the phone for a minute or two ... it comes in real handy.
