The easiest way is to enter Time Machine and look.

Thanks, Linc.  It's just that previously the short vertical lines on time bar on the right side of the screen would turn dark pink to show how recent the backup had occurred.  Now, there's nothing to show after I hook up my external drive and set Time Machine to work.

The timeline isn't pink anymore. Do you see anything in the snapshot windows?

Maybe you're looking in a different place. To see the latest backup, go to System Preferances > Time Machine. I think you are opening Time Machine from Applications.

Thanks, Linc.  That's a good explanation.  And now I'm able to see when the latest back up has occurred, and also to track the backups as they take place from the menu bar.   Duh.   (Previously I was using the pink transformations in the Time Machine window. )

Thanks, John.  I was opening Time Machine from Launch Pad and just watching the ™ window as it (previously) changed to pink indicators beside the respective dates.  Now I'm able to see when the latest backup has occurred, and also to track the backups as they take place from the menu bar.   Duh!
