Oct 28, 2015 3:00 PM in response to jaytea70by Old Toad,The Sony A7R2 is not listed anywhere in this Apple document: Digital camera RAW formats supported by OS X El Capitan - Apple Support. Is that the article that you were referring to?
The Sony site indicates that there is new software for the camera. Have you updated everything?
It must be too new to be supported. You'll have to wait until the next RAW compatibility updater is released to see if it's included.

Oct 28, 2015 3:19 PM in response to Old Toadby jaytea70,The actual model number of the A7R2 is ILCE-7RM2 which you can take away the M and it would be ILCE-7R2 ,, the M just stands for Mark 2 I don't know why Apple chose to include the M in the model number but they are one and the same.

Oct 28, 2015 3:32 PM in response to jaytea70by léonie,The file extension ARW is a generic extension for all Sony RAW formats, but the RAW support is camera specific.
Do you mean the Sony Alpha ILCE-7R II camera in the list? That camera is supported in El Capitan since Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.06.
Are you perhaps using a compressed RAW format? The RAW developement will not always support all compressed formats a camera has.

Oct 28, 2015 3:34 PM in response to léonieby jaytea70,Im just importing the ARW files from my camera on to my computer and there is no thumbnail and when I click the file to open it I get the error that its not supported . I haven't compressed anything unless my camera is compressing it without my knowledge.

Oct 28, 2015 3:42 PM in response to jaytea70by léonie,Your camera must have a menu somewhere where you select the format of the photos you are shooting, JPEG; TIFF; RAW, etc. Some cameras support several RAW formats with different pixel sizes.I don't know your camera, but since it is a professional camera, I expect it to have several format options.
Have you tried to reinstall the RAW support Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.06? You can download it here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1838?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Oct 28, 2015 3:46 PM in response to léonieby jaytea70,In the menu settings it lets me choose between fine Jpeg or Super Fine Jpeg or RAW , that's it. I will dig around it a little more and see if I can find anything. I am downloading the new firmware update and installing it right now , so after I'm done with that I will test it , and I will try to reinstall the Digitial Camera RAW Compatibility update again just to see if that fixed it. My computer automatically updates so im sure I got it already. I will post back later to see if any of this works.

Oct 28, 2015 4:05 PM in response to léonieby jaytea70,turns out I did find a setting that says RAW COMPRESSED or RAW UNCOMPRESSED and mine was set on compressed. I also noticed that I can't use digital zoom while RAW mode either..... geeesh. For such an expensive camera it has such limitations.

Oct 31, 2015 4:12 PM in response to léonieby jaytea70,So I don't know what is wrong ... I set my camera to record RAW photos as "uncompressed" I updated the firmware on my camera and I tried to install the RAW camera support update that you linked to in this thread but it told me that I already have a newer version installed on my computer .. And I still can't view RAW files in Finder and when I click on the generic RAW thumbnail it pops up telling me that the format is not supported. The only way I can view the RAW files is with the program called "Capture One" which works great but I would like to be able to see my thumbnails and open my files without having to use Capture One all the time... t
Does anyone know why my computer will not handle thes RAW .ARW files even though I have the updates and my camera is listed as being supported? Ya know I used Windows PC for the better part of my life , every since Windows 3.1 , I bought this mac pro because i got heavy into video editing and wanted to be able to use Final Cut Pro which is only available on a mac. I can tell you after a year of using this mac I regret ever buying it and all that talk about how macs are more intuitive and user friendly is absolute nonsense. To me Macs seem so convoluted , you cant browse the files on your phone , I can't figure out how to manage my files without there being 2 copies of everything because there is no cut and paste. And now this ... My wife has a PC running windows 10 upstairs in her study and I captured the ARW files off my camera with no problems , was able to see the thumbnails and view the files with no problem whatsoever .. I just don't understand why macs have to be so god damned problematic all the time.
Please help

The last item might be the support for your camera, so it is installed, and probably only needs indexing. To register the RAW types manually, if reinstalling does not suffice, open a Terminal and copy and paste this line: (all goes on one line, and there are only two space around the "-R". If the forum software inserts extra spaces into the word "Launchservices" remove them.)
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -R /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Library.
Then hit the return key.
This fix has originally been posted by Alan Roseman: Re: Aperture 3 preview of raw file greenish

Nov 1, 2015 6:57 AM in response to léonieby jaytea70,tried reinstalling the update ,, Didn't fix it , tried copy pasting into terminal what you suggested and it didn't fix it either. I just don't get it. Makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Nov 1, 2015 7:16 AM in response to jaytea70by léonie,Send a bug report to Apple. Occasionally the entries for the camera models in the RAW support are incorrect, i.e., when one camera goes by several names.
