Q: How to read in iPad numbers spreadsheet created in Mac

Hi, I got an Ipad Mini to read/work on my documents (pages, numbers, keynote)  while traveling so I do not need to carry my very heavy Mac. I have a MacBook Pro  (13-inch, Mid 2012) running OS 10.10.5 and an Ipad Mini iOS 9.1. However, numbers spreadsheets created in Mac Numbers (3.5.3) cannot be read in Ipad Numbers 2.6. And vice versa, and same with Pages and KeyNote. Most of the time, I create documents in Mac coz that's my mainstay. But when I travel or attend meetings, I would like to access my docs in the Ipad. I use Google Drive to sync documents. I understand that these Numbers app are in different versions and I don't understand why since they're both latest so I'm thinking maybe I need iWork for iOS but I wanna make sure if it will work since I have to pay for it. Also, I cannot find iWork in the App Store. Please help. For some reason, office docs (excel or word) can open in the iPad through the Sheets app that I also downloaded in the App Store as well as in Google docs.  But I like to use Numbers and Pages in my Mac. Im a quite disappointed that these two Apple products can't work together. Please help. It's been a year, my iPad was mostly used by my daughter.. for games.

    • What exactly does "cannot be read" mean? Do you get an error message? If so, what?
    • You won't find "iWorks" in the app store. The individual apps are listed (Pages, Numbers, Keynote).
    • Have you tried using iCloud rather than Google docs for iWorks related files? Personally I have found Google docs to be somewhat unreliable for use outside of Googles apps.
