Oct 29, 2015 7:20 AM in response to lingardobby dmil2469,I had the same exact problem. I attempted to create another Mail account and it only asked for limited information: just my email address and password to my Optimum account for that particular username that i was entering (the username is the same as the email address right?). So as soon as I put that information in, Mail recognzied the account and created a second Inbox with the same name. The old inbox that stopped working was a POP server account. The new inbox that Mail recognized is called an IMAP server account and a lot of the account settings were different from the POP account. I still have the old inbox there (POP account) in Mail (with the exclamation point next to it) and I have the second inbox (IMAP account) underneath it. The new one is working fine. However, I am trying to figure out how to get all my old mail (7 years worth) to not disappear. If you set the old inbox to inactive (through Mail Preferences), the old mail disappears. It's still there, but you have to re-enable the old inbox to see it again - AND you'll also see the stupid exclamation point.
I'm trying to make an Old Mail folder and move all my old mail (from the non-functioning inbox) to it but it's not as straight forward as it sounds. You'd think it would be. Once I am successful, then i'm simply going to delete the old (and hopefully now empty) inbox. Just be careful - the reaction time of Mail is slow, and i wound up deleted my old inbox by accident. Luckily Time Machine kept a copy and i was able to go back to yesterday and get it all back. good luck.
