Q: Migration Assistant
Hi,
I have to transfer all my digital life from an iMac early 2008 (500 GB SSD, Mavericks 10.9.5) to a new iMac 4k Retina (2 TB Fusion Drive, El Capitan).
Usually for a clean install I copy the main folders to external HDD, then I paste on new Mac.
Can I Use Migration Assistant? Migration assistant copy also the keychain with all the password and settings, my apps and my settings (bookmarks for Firefox or Safari, for example)? What cable is required for transferring data (USB, Thunderbolt...) from old Mac to new one?
I've never used this software before and I want to know more, just to avoid mistakes when I'll have to do it.
Best regards, thanks for your support
iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), 20 inch early 2008 2,66 GHz Intel

You can use migration assistant with an ethernet cable. Make sure you have one that does gigabit speed, for instance a cat 6 ethernet cable. Your old mac doesn't have thunderbolt, but if you get a fire wire to thunderbolt adaptor you could do data migration by firewire.
Apple has a walkthrough here:
