Q: Trying to reset/restore my MacBook Pro, how do I fix the lock icon with password bar

So I attempted a full reset on my MacBook Pro to erase it re-install the operating system. It seemed like it was working then I got a flashing file folder with a question mark. I tried fixing that problem then I got this lock icon and a password bar which I have no idea what the password is. So now what? I tried command option p & r, that did not work. I tried command r that did not work. Command s that did not work. I don't know what to do. Besides taking it to apple, does anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks

cheers

    Hi Nelson,

I see you're trying to boot into OS X Recovery, but you're seeing a lock symbol with a password field.  This indicates you have enabled a firmware password on your Mac, and you will need to enter the correct password to continue.

Unlock your Mac using a firmware password

When you start your Mac from your normal startup disk, you see the normal login window where you enter your user account password. If you try to start up from another drive, or from OS X Recovery, your Mac pauses startup and displays a lock icon with a password field instead.

If you forget your firmware password

If you can't remember the password you set using the Firmware Password Utility or Find My Mac, schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider. Bring your proof of purchase (original receipt or invoice) with you. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation (available only in some countries).

Use a firmware password on your Mac

    Take care.
