Q: ios9 update -> now touchscreen problems

Ever since I updated to ios 9, my iphone 5s touchscreen is acting crazy.  The accuracy of where I touch or slide vs. what the iphone thinks I did is completely off.  The phone seems to have a mind of its own too, it starts opening apps and stuff when I'm not even touching it.  Then other times it freezes completely for 5-10 minutes.  It is nearly impossible to shut it off because it won't swipe when I initiate the turn off screen.  The home button works fine.  Every once in a while the phone will act normal for like 15 minutes and then it goes crazy again!!  Anyone else??  This just started a couple days ago after I did the ios 9 update.

This is exactly what is happening to my iphone6+ after upgrading to ios9

    - Touchscreen constantly freezing

    - Touchscreen randomly registering phantom touches

    - Touchscreen randomly opening apps

    - Phone randomly entering sleep mode

I'm a month out of warranty but the problem is directly related to ios9!

Maybe each one of you should contact your local consumer protection office and/or the fcc to see what rights you have to file a complaint? Also have each one of you tried calling apple tech support and/or tried scheduling a genius bar appt? Have you tried contacting your mobile carrier to see what they can do?

Since contacting Verizon Wireless who arranged to get me a new phone, (knock on wood) my new 6 plus has been working fine. My problem phone was just under the 1 year warranty which is how I was able to get a new phone.

I was last Tuesday in the office and they told me to reset to default the device and do an initial start with backup recovery only via OTA from icloud. I've done this, but nothing have changed. The problem is still existing.

I'm using an iPhone 6+ and I'm encountering the following Problems, since Apple released their last Updates. First of all, I feel that the Device reacts a lot slower than under iOS 8. Secondly it sometimes occurs that when I press the Homebutton once, in order to wake up the Screen to unlock it, Siri gets activated. This is really annoying.... This also occurs on my Wife's 5s.

With my iPhone6 it is a question of time. The screen doesn't react with a

normal finger tip, but when I shorten the time to small part of a second

it reacts. Especially when I use the calendar and want to select a day

in the monthly display I have to tip very shortly then it works. Other

problems are not present on my iPhone, I hope so :-)

I am beyond disgusted with this glitch in the phones.  I just bought my 6s, with extra memory and have had the phone for just a little over a month and now it's practically unusable.  Most of the time I cannot text, I cannot use my apps, I cannot close screens, my phone looks like its been taken over the speed that the apps are opening and closing.  I have hard rest and even then my phone does not respond to pressing the buttons to get it to reset.  My company spends thousands of dollars on Apple products that become unusable after major updates.  We cannot continually afford to buy new product for it to be unusable after a software update is released.  I had to buy a new iPad when there were issues with the updates crashing the iPads.  What is Apple going to do to compensate its consumers for lost time and productivity?  If it were not for my workplace paying for my phone I would reconsider making Apple my primary technology product supplier.

No one from Apple is paying attention to this thread. If you wish to give Apple feedback, do so here.

That is right. Please voice your issues directly with the feedback submission. I have done so and also included a link to this thread when submitting so they can see this community of users with the same issue. The more inbox flooding they get, the more likely they are to address it.

Since I increased the sensitivity delay I have still had a few instances of issues...  it's when (based on what the notebook drawing feature shows me) the screen isn't registering the pin-***** touches, but rather solid lines about 3mm long on the screen.  Since it takes longer than 0.3 seconds to draw them, I've increased the delay to 0.35 with no noticeable impact on my experience.  Hopefully that will cut out the majority (or all) of the phantom touch issues.

you have the same isue i had

Ok, the issue with unresponsive screen is fixed with 194$ less in my pocket. Look like ios 9.0.2 is not working with less than perfect screen, you might have non perfect screen from day 1. If you have apple care warranty run to apple, they will replace the screen on their budget. If you are not covered under warranty you have some choice. Wait for a ios fix ( if they do it), pay apple a lot of money to fix their problem or may be to a third party repair shop to check screen connection or repair (didn't have time to lose on that option anymore)(businness and emergency phone)

i already posted that response but apparently disapeared from forum. !

OK... so I finally called apple support and made an appointment for the Genius Bar. 1) As soon as I started describing my problem they asked if the problem started after downloading ios9... so there is no doubt in my mind they are well aware of the problem. 2) after describing the steps I took in attempting to resolve it, I was told by tech that deleting all the data on my phone was not enough, that they have a way of going deeper and removing the ios as well which they believed would help and if it didn't help would indicate a hardware issue.  The problem was also that if there was a corruption of software error somewhere, it could easily return upon restoring the backup. So whatever they did, helped 95%.. it was functional although there was occasional freezing and dead spots in the screen though they occurred much less frequently over the next 12 hours.

Side notes: 1) Interestingly when I restored from my backup on my PC, my apps never transferred over.

                      2) ultimately I traded my phone in for a 6s plus and they gave me $375 credit - I didn't need or want a new phone until the 7 comes out but I rely on it too much to deal with this as a continuing problem.

                      3) upon set up of the new phone - again no apps loaded to phone - although the phone had the memory of the folders I had set up for the apps. More frustratingly, I could not re download the apps without an error message - took an hour an the phone with tech support and seems to be working now.

In closing, taking it to the genius bar did solve 95% of the problem so that wold be my recommendation - at least until apple fixes this.

This is amazing.  Our phones are hostage to Apple (unless we jailbreak) software. They are locked to the manufacturer, yet when they release an OS update that "breaks" the device it's suddenly a user issue?  It's not like we modded our phones and that caused the issue.  This is strictly a developer created problem.  WE have to pay to fix our phones because Apple broke them?  Many people with problems no longer have the luxury of warranty coverage.  Ridiculous.

Just as an update so that maybe we can find a common thread here (because obviously Apple is keeping their mouths shut about the issue) and find out what the problem is:

6+, iOS 9.1, screen protector (anybody without screen protectors having issues?)

    Issues:

    • phantom screen inputs
    • screen not accepting input
    • screen locking
    • stuck keys (keyboard and games)
    • home screen double-tap doing nothing
    • touch ID not working
    • a new one - notification center and phone search dropped down at the same time.  What a mess, had to put phone in standby.  Home screen button didn't work.

Have to lock device and unlock it to get screen working again, oftentimes unable to unlock screen due to screen not accepting input.  Have to put back in standby multiple times or wait a minute for "errors to clear", then screen works again.

Overall it's very random.  Sometimes the phone works well for some time, then becomes useless for a time.  Can't think of any combination of usage that seems to trigger the problem.
