Q: Lost Message History: After migrating to new hard drive I cannot see Message history

After I migrated my Macbook Pro hard drive running El Capitan 10.11.2 to a new SSD hard drive, I cannot view Message history in the Messages app. The Messages app is empty of all history.

I verified that my messages are in the archive:  ~Library/Containers/com.apple.iChat/Data/Library/Messages where ~ is my Home location. The archive has my old messages, and I have read/write access to the files. However, the Messages app does not display any history.

Does anyone know how to resolve the issue of old messages not appearing in the Messages app?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1), OS X El Capitan (10.11.2)

    Hi,

You need the place that stores them, which you have and the place that summarises them and points to where they are.

You need the chat.db items in ~/Library/Messages
