Q: Since upgrading to El Capitan I can't upload photos to Facebook.

Since I upgraded to El Capitan I can't upload photos to Facebook from the 'Photos' app. I get a message saying account is not configured. I click the link but nothing happens. I don't know how to resolve this issue.

I get a message saying account is not configured.

Have you configured your Facebook account in the System preferences > Internet Accounts?

I've got the same issue.  When I try to configure the Facebook account I get an "unable to verify account name or password" even though I can sign in to Facebook.  Any help would be appreciated!

Do you have any firewalls enabled, that might block the connection? Antivirus software like Kapersky, Little Snitch or similar?

If it is a network problem with your domain settings, our system experts might be better able to help. Ask the question again in the El Capitan forum.

I have this problem too. Facebook is configured in SETTINGS but, when I checked, SHARE MENU is un-ticked (un-checked) and it is not possible to do so. Any ideas why this might be so?

Okay. I think I've found the solution. It's not pretty as it involves using the TERMINAL app in UTILITIES. However, it does work and I am now able to share properly (just as I could before El Capitan).

I found it in another part of the support forum. Hope it help, please don't blame me if it doesn't.

Thanks, it worked. I had a few problems as I couldn't share my pictures from Photos to Facebook since the last update from Yosemite to El Capitan.

Kind regards to all and thanks for the support.

I am able to log into Facebook on my iPhone iPad and on safari and chrome on my mac but in the internet accounts area it rejects my credentials.  This makes NO sense to me.  Any thoughts?

i and chrome on my mac but in the internet accounts area it rejects my credentials.

The error message does not say that your credentials are rejected, but that the credentials cannot be verified. That usually means, that the  Facebook server cannot be reached. It could be a problem with a firewall or a domain name server. Do you have a firewall or antivirus software enabled, or have you been traveling in a country where the access to Facebook is restricted?

Thank you for the reply. Good catch! I was in fact misreading the error message.

I am in the USA using the same computer I have for about a year and a half. No firewall or DNS stuff changed that I am aware of and I manage all that stuff at my apartment.

I Do have port fwding on ports 80,443,5003 and some other obscure port which I can't recall right now, but it's been that way for five years.

THe one one thing that did change is I had to build a new keychain as my icloud applle id got messed up blah blah blah....

    Are you using two-factor authentication?

This can interfere with Photos trying to access Apple's servers.

If the two-factor-authentication is interfering it usually helps to create an app-specific password for the app you are using, in this case Photos. Then you can keep the two-step authentication active.  It helped in similar cases, for example Mail, see this discussion:

This solution is for those of you using 2-step verification for your Apple ID and are using iCloud as the mail server that you are trying to mail photos with.

I too had this issue. The problem in my case occurred because I had setup 2-step authentication for my Apple ID. If you have done this then you will get the error message "the mail server did not recognize your email/password...". To solve the problem go to:

    https://appleid.apple.com

    • Click "Manage Your Apple ID"
    • Verify your identity with the device you selected (if this step does not show up then you have not likely set up 2-step authentication and this is not your solution)
    • Click Password and Security in the left column
    • Click Generate an app-specific password
    • Enter iPhoto as the name of the app
    • Copy the password and paste this into the password box in iPhoto where you would normally enter your apple ID (in the mail account section in iPhoto preferences).

    And...voila' (I hope)

Hello again and thanks for the help!

I could enable 2-stp authentication and would be willing if that would fix my issue; but I cannot understand why my Apple ID would impact sharing photos through Facebook using the Share sheets in OS X.

If you say it's work a try, then I'll do it.  What do you think?  Is it worth all the admin logistics in the my aspects that DO use my apple ID to setup two step authentication for Facebook?

I meant the opposite.  Two-Step verifications could be causing the problems. Don't enable it, if you do not want to use it.

the complication is caused by the new security features in MacOS X, that are restricting the ways how applications can exchange data.

I solve this problem. There are two different places you can respond with your Facebook password. When you select a photo to upload from the photos application you get a prompt to enter your facebook password. This prompt will fail if you have not established your password in the System Preferences > Internet Accounts > Facebook > Details. Enter your credentials in the Details of the Facebook account and then you will be able to share items to Facebook.
