Q: My Cloud drive problem

Since installing El Capitan, Both of my Macs show My Cloud drive in Shared devices in the sidebar, but when trying to access via "connect as":

"There was a problem connecting to the server... The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."

The only way I can access it now is by going directly through WD Software, or by using Finder > Command+K, but this does not permanently (or semi-permanently) mount the drive. This process must be repeated every time I want to access the drive (what a pain.)

This didn't happened in yosemite.

    Merci,

    Cordialement.

Thank you , I'll try that and let you know if it works for me . Meanwhile, I start Mac, go to the Finder and double-click WD my server. When he opens the window, I minmise so it sits in the dock for when I have to use . When I need something from the Finder I right click on the Finder icon in the Dock and click "New open file " watching elsewher . A little annoying, but it makes life a little easier . I can not speak French. I used Google Translate. Hopefully it worked ??
    Best regards.

I've the same issue but i noticed that if i press Command key () and (K) and go to server connection

and put there smb://mybooklive_IP_ADDRESS, i get request for username and password

then i'm able to access to  mybooklive contents  .

Looks like that is working by IP but not by name

    hope this can help anyone

I note that WD update v04.04.01-112 solves the problems with the communication protocol

    Now, no slowdown or disconnection

How do you know which IP address to use?

I had also been struggling with trying to connect to my WD My Cloud drive from my MacBook with El Capitan and I went through every single suggestion in this thread and many others and none of them solved it for me. Tonight I found a solution that finally worked for me.

I cleared the arp cache and restarted my MacBook.

I used the following command from the Terminal app:

    sudo arp -a -d

I then restarted my MacBook and I was able to connect to my WD My Cloud drive using "afp://<The Name of My WD Cloud Drive>" in the Finder "Connect to Server..." window (equivalent to using Command-K).

I also had this problem and scoured the internet for an answer with no luck.  I stumbled on the fix!!!

Open the WD MyCloud Dashboard in Safari.  Navigate the menu at the top to get to settings.  Scroll down to the bottom of the General tab and turn on Time Machine under Mac Backups...... Voila!!!!!

    Thanks 1Haole,

Glad to hear this worked for you. I've had TimeMachine Backups switched on all along, but when opening TimeMachine, the WD My Cloud just doesn't appear as one of the backup drives available. The drive does show in finder however, so I can access my documents there, just not through TimeMachine.

So if you have any more input on this, I'd appreciate it!

Would you recommend that I stay on Yosemite until this is resolved? This is the sole reason I have not upgraded to El Capitan.

I would wait, unless anyone has found a solution that I'm not aware of?

I tried to go back to Yosemite, but the TimeMachine back up I did before upgrading is saved on the MyCloud drive. And now my Mac can't access that anymore so there's no turning back.
