Q: iOS 9 / iTunes / Outlook Notes sync on Windows

Well thanks Apple - what a cracking job you've made of iOS 9 / iTunes integration with Microsoft Outlook 2010.  I can now no longer sync notes between my iPhone and Outlook.  I have 250+ notes in Outlook and now no way of synchronising them with my iPhone!

I've been using Outlook and my iPhone since iOS 3 on my iPhone 3G and had no problems.  I work in IT and although your support documents still state that I can see my 'new improved' iCloud notes in Outlook using the Outlook add-in it DOES NOT work

Has anyone got this working?

iPhone 5, iOS 9, Windows 7 32bit &iTunes 12.3.0.44

This is not totally true at all...

Notes have NOT been deprecated in outlook 2013. It has just changed of place (removed from Outlook Options but are there and functional):

Notes   Notes doesn’t appear on the ribbon or in the new Navigation Bar. The default special folder for Notes still exists and can be selected from the Folders view in the Folder Pane. Any existing Notes folders appear in the Folder Pane Folder List view. In Outlook Options, the Notes and Journal is removed. New notes have a default color of yellow, default size of medium, default font of 11 point Calibri, and display the date and time that the note was last modified. These options are not read and cannot be changed from any preferences or registry keys.

I'm using Outlk 2013 and I can assure you that are there...waiting for you!!!.

Unless you mean some programming call for the system which is deprecated, which I don't know...

    Apple fail, not Microsoft...

I installed it to try out the 7 day trial. During the set-up I found that the instructions say you should start with a (BLANK) Iphone which contains no contacts, calendar, notes etc.

That's just it, the notes on my Iphone are newer than what is in Outlook.  I'm sure if you had a new phone this would be okay, but with pertinent information on both devices which must be merged, this just won't work.

Yes, you're right. I forgot when I did.

What I did: first make backup of all calendars, contacts and so... (from outlook to desktop).

Then I erased all calendars, contacts notes and so in my iphone (yes, scares a bit...but at the end nothing happened to me).

Then, I define with akruto the outlook connection: then syncs calendars, notes, contacts and all with your iphone (you have it back).

Then I disconnect the calendars and contacts sync in Ackruto and jus notes and reminders.

THEN: I erase again the calendars and contacts in my iphone, and I syns with iTunes...(maybe I have to untip and tip again the sync with outlook)...and then appears again the calendars and contacts in your iphone, syncing with iTunes, and notes and reminders with akruto.

Maybe it can be done from the very beginning only sync notes, but not sure whether it worked to me or not...I can't remember.

Yes, a little mess...but when set up...everything is fine.

    Better this than nothing...

Following all the thread, one question comes to my mind:

iPhone is expensive...so it is not for (most of) jounger people...

it is not professional, as we can due to their moves.

So, what is the niche they're addressing to now?. People for hearing musing with a lot of money? (Qatar people?, Saudi Emirates?, Tim Cooks?, their sons?).

I'm not in that niche anyway...(I'm in the poor workers one...sadly but proudly ).

I had that problem before I found Akruto. What I did was Exported my iPhone data, cleared Outlook and imported it there. But if you've got updates in both, then that's another story. Can't blame you for not wanting to attempt. Hope you find something that works for you.

Just confirmed with Apple support that I cannot sync my Outlook Notes with my new iPhone 6S.  (Thanks a lot Apple.)  I'm now looking for an app that can do that for me.  Are there any?  Are there any app recommendations?  I don't want to use iCloud.  I just want my Outlook notes on my phone!!! Hardware is Thinkpad, Windows 7, Outlook 2010.  iOS is 9.1 -- Sorry if this is duplicate of previous questions, just redirect me.  --

Completely no-tech, but I have the info on my phone.  Not great, not good, actually pathetic, but the info is there.  I extracted Outlook 2010 Notes to Excel.  Emailed myself the Excel file.  Opened it on my phone and converted it to a PDF.

Arkruto is one of them. http://www.akruto.com/

But there are others. Read the thread.

As with everyone else here, I am livid about this downgrade, particularly with no information given upfront about it. Apple really seem to have been deliberately secretive about it. If they are going to do it then they are going to do it but they could at least have the courage of their convictions and make it clear what these upgrades are taking away. In upgrading to new versions of iTunes, etc. they're not shy about listing all the wonderful (in their opinion) new features. They should just list an unbiased change log.

Anyway, rage somewhat vented (and I did go to the link listed in earlier posts to lodge official feedback and I encourage others to do the same for any chance to have this bad attitude of Apple's addressed in the future - be polite and constructive, though). Phil's comments actually gave me an idea for an alternative solution that I really like. I'm not keen on the Contacts suggestion as it seems messy and sticks out as a work around solution and I'm not keen on paying for something (Akruto) that should be (and was) for free just because of some stupid marketing war (just like when Google took away Outlook synchronisation for calendars, etc.). That alternative solution is to use OneNote.

It didn't take me too long to copy my few hundred notes into OneNote (much the same effort really as the Contacts alternative) and I was able to get extra functionality like creating headings (notes with subnotes) and also create a section with password protection for notes about sensitive info like bank accounts, etc. (makes it a good central password repository option as well rather than getting yet another 3rd party app). On newer phones OneNote functions very quickly and you can configure in Settings > Spotlight Search to search within OneNote. Personally I never actually open Notes on my iPhone, I use search to search for the info I need and then select the note from the results list. This solution is exactly the same except that the results show OneNote items instead of Notes items. (see pics below so you can get a feel for what I'm suggesting)

The solution also has the added advantage that it's a bit of a snub to Apple by using an MS solution.

I still have my notes in Outlook and yes, I now have to use a separate program on my desktop to create my notes but OneNote also comes up quickly on my (5 year old) PC so it really isn't much of an inconvenience and I get extra functionality. Would I use this solution if Apple hadn't cocked this up? Probably not but I actually do like the solution and am somewhat glad that this stuff up (and Phil's comments - thanks Phil) gave me the idea to use OneNote (it is a very underrated program) and I'm happy to transition to using OneNote in the future and ceasing using notes on Outlook.

I hope this helps some of you very frustrated people out there...

Seamless syncing of Outlook Notes between my PC & iPhone sync is absolutely critical for me - and I'm glad to hear that I am not alone.  Awkward work arounds are really unacceptable.  It can't be a huge deal for Apple to work something out rather than these awkward work-arounds that are being discussed.  How do we effectively appeal to Apple?

    Changing to Android...

To have an application for mails and another for notes is not a reasonable solution...we're complicating things, and not solving it...

Many people has even sent some mails to the "leaders" of Apple...and no answer, no results.

So, given this attitude, my solution is clear....to change to Android. Yes, the usability and so...but what is worth about usability if they don't care about the user...they're like "technological Gods"....and I'm alergic to (people think of themselves as...) Gods.

I think we're loosing the time writing in these threads...the problem is Apple philosophy itself.

    So, change of provider...
