Q: Naming or organizing published motion template parameters.

Does anyone have any idea how to name or organize Motion template parameters?  When I create an FCP X generator in Motion, I publish the parameter, but in FCP X they're just exactly that - a bunch of parameters for the generator that don't really tell me what the parameters are for such as which layer or object they're controlling.  The parameters seem to be in any order.

 

I just want to make the generators so that's its more clear what I and others are doing.

 

I hope this makes sense.

missed that too in the beginning, solution is very Apple like:

just double click it

in the Projects/Inspector/Published Parameters ...

it gets highlighted .... uhm, a lil' less dark and blue bordered, and you can give it any name, independently how you name it in your project.

 

and:

you can drag the whole parameter up and down, to give it a meaningful order.

 

What I'm missing: seperators.

If someone comes up with a solution outside the APK, that would be nice ........

    Thanks. That's so strange though. That gives the user the control over the template/ generator, it would seem that the preferred way is to do this in Motion somehow so the person who created it controls the paramatee names and order.

     

    What I am trying to do is create show graphics for editors in Motion and then deliver them to the editors as generators with parameter control, naming, and order. So you're saying that's not possible?

    Wait a minute. I think I misunderstood your image. That is inside Motion. I thought that was in FCP X. Being able to make th changes in Motion would make more sense. However is there a way to view all published parameters at once so the naming and order can be changed before publishing the template?

    Karsten, thanks.  I figured it out.  Did a little digging and found this link which is what you were talking about:

    Would you happen to know the difference between publishing as a template and publishing as a generator?  I know how generators work in FCP X, but it's not clear what it actually means if I leave the "publish as a generator" unchecked.

    perhaps my first reply wasn't clear ..

    in Motion...

    click in the Layers list on Project (red circle)

    in the Inspector, click again Project:

    all published parameters appear, ready to be re-namedand re-arranged ...

     

    correct, this can only be done in Motion, not in FCPX

    yep, you can open any (most) effects/transition/generators from within FCPX in Motion: right-click, "open (copy) in Motion"

     

    ... you're a bit hasty ... Did I miss something?

    you can create in Motion Projects = standalone, no connection to FCPX, and transitions, generators, titles and effects = 'templates' or plugins for FCPX.

    A generator will appear in FCPX' generator pane ......

    Correct, but here's my understanding:

     

    You can save projects as standalone in just using the traditional save

    You can publish templates as transitions, effects, and generators

    However you have the option of publish a Motion project without checking "publish as generator"

     

    The discrepancy is what is the difference between doing a regular save vs. going to Publish Template from the File menu and not selecting publish as Final cut Pro Generator? What does this create and where.
