Q: AirPort Extreme requires weekly restarts.

Year-old AirPort Extreme requires weekly restarts. This is problematic as I cannot access my home files when traveling. Cable modem has been ruled out as a cause of the issue. I can perform soft resets when at home. Unit is linked to a wired gigabit home network. The problem started in last two months, and is not due to changes in network hardware or unit firmware. Can you provide any troubleshooting advice?

The modem itself can be fine but the airport does not like a lot of the most common models.

If it happens to be SB6141 or almost any of the newer surfboard models then you have a hardware issue of incompatible connections.. the exact cause of which is a mystery still.

Tell us exactly the brand and model of cable modem.

What happens when you are at home and do your soft reset.. what exactly are you meaning by this??

A simple though shall we say agricultural solution is a 24 hr electrical timer that powers off the AE at 11:59 each day and back on at 12:01

If the issue only happens weekly then you can be sure even if you miss a day it will be available within the next 24hours.. Perhaps even at 12 hour intervals.

Apple product QA is pretty poor on the latest routers..

If you still have warranty you would simply get it replaced.
