Q: 2013 MBP Shuts Down After Reboot (Mavericks)

I have late 2013 13" MBP that shuts down when I try and reboot. I am running the latest version of Mavericks (unless an update was sent out in the last few days.) I rebooted because my computer has trouble connected with my wireless network after going to sleep. Now, it goes through the progress bar and then shuts back down. I am sending this email out of my 'guest' user (thank heavens I set up two users!).

So... Suggestions?

If you see a progress bar at startup. that is because your Hard drive is too damaged to be mounted. While the progress goes from the left end to about 1/3 of the way across, it is running the equivalent of Disk Utility (Repair Disk [directory]). When complete, it will attempt to mount the Hard drive again.

-- if it can, startup proceeds as normal, but sometimes additional problems can occur.

-- if it can't, it will shut down.

If you can get to Recovery, try running Disk Utility (Repair Disk) until it comes clean or gets stuck.  If it gets stuck, you may need a new Hard drive, or may need to erase your current drive and install Mac OS X anew.

Do not be in a big hurry to erase the drive, especially if you have unsaved files. There are over 350,000 files in Mac OS X, and a lot of them have to be perfect to boot up Mac OS X. But they ALL can be replaced by a re-install. You may be able to rescue the few hundred files you care about (your files) with other techniques. Once you erase the drive, they are gone.
