Does it show in Finder?

Does it show in Disk Utility? If so what is format?

Does it show in System Profiler

Additionally, which OS version are you running (you are not running iOS on an MBP)? If it is El Capitan, have you checked Finder > Preferences > General to make sure everything is checked there to show on the desktop?

To find out which OS version: Go to the Apple, click on About this Mac and post what version of OS X shows there.

While in Finder, go to the upper menu bar >  click on Finder > click on Preferences > General >  make sure everything is checked so it shows on your desktop.
