Q: Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

I created a new Apple ID for temporary use while this issue has not yet been resolved. Been using it for more than 24hours and not having problems up to this moment yet. Downloaded only apps for everyday use as most of them are free. No problem on the saved settings as I used my backup to restore. I also got a new free trial of Apple Music which end on January 31. This makes me truly believe that this an apple id related issue. Will just go back on using my true apple id when all these are fixed to get my purchases again.

Also just checked my email to see if I could go to any hyperlinks in email messages and can't do that either. Didn't think to check until I saw some people on here were having that issue as well. Fun fun fun.

I have been struggling with this for several weeks, as well.  Have spent dozens of hours with technical support, both over the phone and in the store, to no avail. Have an appointment this evening to get devices (two iPhone 6's) replaced, but am fairly skeptical that new hardware will resolve the issue.  Plus, all of the restores, have wiped out viable back-ups in iTunes, and iCloud back-ups stopped working prior to 9.1 update (which I thought would correct that issue ... boy was I wrong).  Any additional thoughts?

Unless the new hardware is running 9.0.2 instead of 9.1, you won't see a difference - many examples on this thread of people replicating the same issues on new hardware, and I can also personally attest that trying a different device won't help.

Other things that don't help - rebooting, signing out and back in, restoring, etc. They might bring back functionality for up to 20-30 minutes, but half the time they don't seem to make any difference at all. I've had normal functionality come back a couple of times for short periods at complete random, not in response to me doing anything unusual.

Want to ratify what everyone else has said about Apple signing 9.0.2 again as a simple short-term solution. This issue might not be affecting a huge number or users but it's debilitating enough that it demands some sort of remedy. Let us downgrade so we can use our phones while a long-term patch is developed.

I have exactly the same problems with iOS 9.1 - no Apple Music, no downloading of apps, hyperlinks in emails not working - even though it all works fine in iTunes on my MacBook. I guess it's reassuring to see that my problems are not isolated, but it makes me think that the solution may not be straightforward. Just like you have all said, pretty much nothing has fixed this for me - signing in/out of iTunes, breaking link with iCloud, restoring iPhone or setting up as a new iPhone. I've been speaking to a very helpful senior adviser at Apple and have shared this thread with her. I've asked if she can help me downgrade to 9.0.2, as that seemed the only short-term solution I can think of. No answer yet, but I'll let you know how I get along.

After a quick search of the Support Communities, this seems to be one of the larger threads pertaining to this bug, so I'll add my experience to the growing list. I've also sent feedback to Apple.

As was mentioned a few times earlier in this thread, my problem is that my Music app gets stuck on the Apple Music splash screen. The image of the crowd in the background with the Apple logo followed by "Music" in the center of the screen. I'm experiencing this on my iPhone 6 and my old iPhone 5, which my kid uses (both running iOS 9.1). Sometimes the app will open normally, then switch to the Apple Music splash screen after a second or two. Most of the time it goes straight to the splash screen. Once there, it's stuck. I do not use the Apple Music service, but I believe the problem I'm experiencing is related to the same bug as most users here. I've seen elsewhere in the support communities that others have the same problem I'm seeing. I've tried closing out the Music app, turning the device off/on, and performing a hard reset. In Settings - Music, I have turned off "Show Apple Music." I've also tried turning it on, but the problem persists.

Shortly before writing this, I tried to open the Music app on my iPhone 6. The Apple Music splash screen popped up, as it has been, but it then gave me the choice to "Start 3 Month Free Trial" or "Go To My Music," as it did back when Apple Music was first released. I chose to go to my music and the app started working again. I closed and reopened the Music app several times and it's still working. Hopefully permanently. But as I said, that is only on my iPhone 6. It still gets stuck on that splash screen on the iPhone 5 without offering the two choices.

WORKAROUND: I've discovered a workaround for the problem on the iPhone 5. Since we don't use the Apple Music service, in Settings - Music, under the option to "Show Apple Music" (which I have turned off), I can click "Join Apple Music" and it will go to the Music app and work normally. It does not try to start the Apple Music service. If it doesn't work, try closing the Music and Settings apps, then try again.

23:31 UK time: I am still very cautious but in the last 10 minutes, Apple Music loaded my entire library and playlists, radio is working, apps are showing in my purchases and downloading, hyperlinks in emails working too.... I will wait until all my music library has finished loading, and switch it off for the night, hoping to find everything back to its normal old self tomorrow morning... Fingers crossed...

Today, I realized how integral my App Store AppleID sign-in is to the iPhone experience. I cannot download or update apps. I cannot purchase music. I cannot buy, download, or update iBooks nor can I keep my bookmarks in sync between devices. I cannot open Pandora or Frozen Free Fall. Who knows how much more functionality may be lost. I'm willing to give up my nifty new emojis to go back to 9.0.2 which really worked well. I'll never get back all this fruitless troubleshooting time.

My apple music is doing the same thing.  I had exactly the same experience when I wiped phone and reloaded everything.

Same issues here, a new phone replacement worked perfectly fine until as anybody would have to I begun restoring my backup. This is after a week of spending wasted time on the phone to lovely apple care, which towards the end of the week was just running me in circles.

Then again all **** hit the fan, apps won't download, my music won't show up and my Apple ID is having issues singing in and out. It just goes to show that when things are rushed huge problems occur! Like all of us I hope apple in on a fix for this sooner rather than later and they bloody well better be ready to compensate for the loss of time, unusable apps and many other problems this 33 day rush out of 9.1 has caused.

I'll be doing the same again tonight however wont be using no my backup to restore the phone, I will have to redownload all my apps, replicate my settings and such its going to take hours and have me Swearing blue murder at Apple. But I guess setting it up as a new phone without using a backup is the last and only option. Let you know how it all goes.

On another not it looks as if we will be waiting till mid December for 9.2 over a month of wasted data usage and applications unable to be accessed quite possibly. Hope Apple have plans to quell us all.
