Nov 3, 2015 8:29 AM in response to Elle Esseby Phil0124,AirDrop does not require pairing. iPhones and Macs have never been able to pair, and there's nothing you can do with them paired so they simply do not pair.
For AirDrop Bluetooth needs to be turned on, but no pairing is required nor possible.

To send items to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you need a 2012 or newer Mac model with OS X Yosemite or later, excluding the Mac Pro (Mid 2012).
