Q: Upgrade from 10.6.8 to El Capitan?

Will be deleting all files (but not programs such as Office) on my Late 2010 MacBook Air 3,2 model. Will my MBA be able to handle the upgrade?

I am giving my MBA to my daughter... so I thought it would be a good time to update the OS... but don't want to screw up my machine if it can't handle the upgrade. (Would be beneficial to her to upgrade, unless of course upgrading will screw up the computer!)

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi Domenic, Thanks for the links... I really don't want to reset my MBA since I have Office on it and I have lost my key and that is the one program we really need to keep...
So, can I just delete my files, photos, etc.... but leave the software alone and upgrade the OS?
