Q: What does it mean when a flashing globe apears at start up of my mac?

When I start my Mac first the screen is gray then a flashing globe appears. The glob flashes for a few seconds then the apple comes on and my Mac finally opens up.

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

This Apple support article mentions a 'spinning' globe, not a 'flashing' one.

Are you certain that yours is 'flashing'?

    Ciao.

Yes it is definitely flashing, there one second gone the next that back again. This goes on for about 5 times before the apple logo shows up.

Apple uses the globe icon to indicate the computer is booting via network but it should appear as a spinning globe for that purpose. Since you report this happens for a few seconds and then starts normally, and it appears that you want it to start normally, I suspect that perhaps you need to set the Mac’s startup drive. Try this:

Open System Preferences and select the Startup Disk tab. You’ll probably have to unlock the tab, then look in the window for your Mac’s startup drive and select it. Try restarting and see if that solves the problem.
