Q: confused about how to transfer iTunes to new Mac
I've been a Windows user for the last 20 years. Bought a new Mac Book Pro last week. I need to move my iTunes libraries to the Mac, but confused about what to do and when.
Here's the setup in Windows:
There are two users on this computer, each with his/her own iTunes libraries, and apple ID's.
User 1:
iTunes on XP Pro computer. MOST of the music and video files are on an external hard drive. But all backups for iPod Touches, iPod classic, and iPads are on the computer.
User 2:
I believe he has transferred all his iTunes media to the external drive. Although user 2 has iPod Touch, and iPad and iPhone, I believe he has been using Cloud backup for those.
And I suspect there are lots of duplicates in our two separate libraries.
So, how do I transfer all of the libraries to the Mac?
Although I have tried to set up file-sharing, and the Mac can see the files on the Windows computer, I can't get the Windows computer to let the Mac have them.
Shall I just copy the entire iTunes directory (in User 1's My Documents) to the external drive?
Should I move User 2's iTunes to the Mac? He has not set up a user account on it yet, although I believe he will. Just hasn't had time. Or should I let him move it when he gets his user account set up on the Mac?
Although I have read numerous instructions regarding transferring iTunes libraries between computers, none seem quite as complex as the situtation I'm looking at.
Thanks for any clarification anyone has to offer.
