Q: Can't access windwos 7 partition!

Hello;

Today I tried to extend the partition windows 7 in my mac-book air (El Capitan), so i opened disk utility, i reduced the Macintosh HD, and I thought this decrements will be added automatically to windows partition, unfortunately, it created a new partition! I tried to delete it, I couldn't.  I clicked this partition, then I erased it, but the partition tab is greyed! and can't access at all. Any way when I restart the mac, to access the windows, I found no windows drive in the list of choice, and only Macintosh HD and the recovery drive are in the list of choice!

It will be highly appreciated if you can help me to delete the extra partition I wrongly made, increase the windows size, and get my windows back

Sincerely Yours

MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

    Dear Loner;

    Thanks for your quick reply, but to be honest with you, I don't know how to get you what you asking for!

    With a little help I may get them.

    By the way, when I access OX operating system, I still see windows partition, and I can access the drive and open all the files there. Just I cant access the windows any more, and the extra partition I made still there!

    Again Thanks a lot for your help, and it will be highly appreciated if you can help me fix this problem.

    Sincerely Yours

    Go to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal.

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    sudo dd if=/dev/rdisk0s4 count=1 2>/dev/null | hexdump -C

    Triple-click each line and use Copy (Command+C) and Paste (Command+V) in the Terminal Window. The "sudo" commands will prompt you for your password. Enter it and press return. It will not be echoed back to you.

    1. Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R) during power up.

    2. Run Utilities -> Terminal.

    3. Type csrutil disable and press return/enter.

    4. Boot normally.

    5. Type csrutil status in OSX Terminal and verify that is it disabled. If still enabled, repeat.

    Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR. Use defaults for other questions (like partition codes). The only values that need modifications are the Boot flags and step 10. Accept all other defaults that Gdisk offers. Please see the sample Q&A as an example. These steps can be repeated if you make a mistake before you get to Step 12, otherwise start from Step 1 for these steps. Step 6 has numbers which are typed with a space between the numbers. Please see the sample Q&A before you execute these steps.

    1. Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0
    2. P  (Print list of parts)
    3. R  (Recover)
    4. O (print current Hybrid MBR)
    5. H (chooses Hybrid)
    6. Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 3 4 5
    7. Y  (Good for GRUB question)
    8. N  (part 3 boot flag)
    9. N  (part 4 boot flag)
    10. Y  (part 5 boot flag make NTFS bootable partition)
    11. O  (print current Hybrid MBR)
    12. W (Write the new MBR)
    13. Y (Yes! write the new MBR)
    14. Reboot

    Here is sample Q&A for this section. Please notice the Press Enter/Return.

    Place EFI GPT (0xEE) partition first in MBR (good for GRUB)? (Y/N): Y

    Creating entry for GPT partition #3 (MBR partition #2)

    Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): Press Enter/Return

    Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

    Creating entry for GPT partition #4 (MBR partition #3)

    Enter an MBR hex code (default AB): Press Enter/Return

    Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): N

    Creating entry for GPT partition #5 (MBR partition #4)

    Enter an MBR hex code (default 07): Press Enter/Return

    Set the bootable flag? (Y/N): Y

    Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?

    Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?

    Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

    Test 4 - If Test 3 is successful, select Bootcamp and Click Restart.

    Dear Loner;

    Thanks a lot for all your help, but the last post doesn't work with me, I tried to follow your steps, so Boot into Local Recovery (Command+R) during power up., then form Run Utilities -> Terminal I Typed csrutil disable, then I pressed return/enter. finally I Boot normally. But the system stuck and keep giving me the same message (no boot drive) and asking me to insert the drive.

    I do have one question, If I use the recovery will it help me to delete the extra partition I made! and get back my windows! If no, so what should I do to delete the windows partition and the extra partition I made.

    Thanks once again

    Did you run the Gdisk steps and rebuild the MBR? If you did, please post the output of

    sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    No. Once the partition tables are invalid, you will make things a bit more harder to recover. Please rebuild your MBR first and test.

    Dear Loner;

    OK, I will try again, but i just want to tell you this; the windows partition still in the system

    So the bootcamp, suppose to be the windows partition, and Dr tefo, is the stupid partition I created.

    So When i open the bootcamp, I can access it and open all the folders I have in this parttion (i.e., windows).

    in the start up disk, I can see windows partition

    So Yesterday before I take any step I open the startup disk and I choose bootcamp windows, then I restart the system, and since then

    keep giving me no boot drive, and each time I want to power on the mac, I have to press option, then I choose mac partition.

    Finally, with all these details, what should I do?

    Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Sincerely Yours.
