Q: Why doesn't my iCloud Photo Library appear on Apple TV?

My old Apple TV would allow me to view the photos from both iPhoto and Photos on my TV....including slideshows.

With the new Apple TV all I get is the "Shared" folder...but not the whole thing including albums.

Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Intel Quad Core 2.3 GHz i7

The new Apple TV allows that too, using the Computers icon. You can also have access to your Photo stream and shared albums under iCloud Photos. iCloud Photo library has never been supported on Apple TV, whether it comes to the new model remains to be seen.

This only half answers my question.  Why does it only link to the "Shared" folder in Photos....and prevent me from seeing ALL the photos including albums that I have in Photos?

I wonder how many photos you do have? I have just over 38,000 photos but iCloud shared photo is limited to 5,000. Apple TV photos app also shows your recent uploaded photos in photo stream and unless you delete them yourself will remain for 30 days only And limited to 1,000 photos that are taken within the 30 day period.

I have approx. 60,000 photos....and they are all organized into folders and albums so I can easily find what I'm looking for.  The OLD Apple TV allowed me to view any of them through Home Sharing via iTunes.  So far....with the NEW Apple TV....all I can see is the Shared folder, which has very little in it.

I must be missing something because I can't believe Apple would leave out this functionality.

    Hi

I have all my photos on new Atv 4

Go to all your apple devices including pc & enable home sharing

Then on an Apple device iphone/ iPad /pc go to photos click share

Then when a box comes up where to send enter your apple ID email address &

Enter a name for the folder i put Apple TV

Then you can tick the photos to send to Atv 4

    Cheers

    Brian

I am having the same problem, where not all of my photos are showing in ATV.  I am afraid I don't understand your solution.  Home sharing is on and only select albums are showing in ATV.  Perhaps it is going to take a while for them to appear? (25,000 photos).  The old ATV did in fact display them all, without having to share them to a folder as you have suggested.  in fact, unless I am missing something, I can't share my entire library as easily as you have described?

    Thanks,

I don't.....I have the 32 gig model.  There's no reason for the photos to be stored on the Apple TV itself.  That's the purpose of iCloud Library.  They're not even stored on my MacMini.  All they need to do is access the files in Photos like the old Apple TV did so we can see them on our TV.

That is correct. The photos should not use any of the local storage on the ATV.

My understanding is that the new Apple TV (4th gen) does not support iCloud Photo Library (yet). A bit surprising, since it supports iCloud Music Library, which was introduced later.

That is surprising given that the device has the ability to turn on ICloud photo. It is showing some of my photos.

Sorry, I get what you were saying.  I read the iCloud photo sharing option as iCloud photo library.
