Oct 24, 2015 5:36 AM in response to BigBadPhilby jadetherotty, when in messages, delete the message which will remove all of the history. I deleted my wife's message and then I got names on all text messages.

Oct 24, 2015 1:58 PM in response to jadetherottyby christinebparish,ON this same thread, I had the issue early, but erased the message and the names came back. Now I've lost contacts in my contact list, but when searched in the imessage app, they appear. I can only call the contact via the info button on the iMessage. Any Ideas? Thanks, Andrew

Oct 29, 2015 3:33 AM in response to iphone_guy79by agentd7,ios 9.1 hasn't resolved this issue. I have a 32gb 6 for the record.
I have raised it with Apple but no reply as yet. Very annoying! Don't expect such a significant error for Apple, never had this sort of problem with my old 4s on iOS 6!!

Oct 29, 2015 6:18 AM in response to agentd7by BigBadPhil,Mine has been resolved now thanks to jadetherotty's reply.
I Just deleted the conversation for the person it was doing it too and then when they sent me a text, it had their name back on it.

Oct 29, 2015 8:35 AM in response to BigBadPhilby agentd7,Thanks for letting me know that worked. The problem I have with this is that many of the contacts it happens for are people I have known for years, close friends and even my girlfriend. So I am loathe to delete all my conversations with them. I don't feel I should have to I guess!

Nov 7, 2015 3:35 AM in response to jadetherottyby Sut3kh,I can confirm @jadetherotty's fix:
deleting the conversation with anyone who shows up as a number on the lock screen fixes the issue for new messages. I was hoping not to have to do this but after a few updates it would seem that it's not going to be fixed by apple so it doesn't look like we have a choice!
It does seem odd that it's not a wider issue despite many of my family and friends have it, I wonder if its to do with using gmail for contacts and not icloud or something?

Nov 7, 2015 5:53 AM in response to Sut3khby mghughes,I've tried turning MMS off and on, disabling dial assist, and finally now deleting the conversation from the person whose number is showing up. Still nothing, hasn't fixed the issue. My next option is downgrading to iOS 8 again.
Apple? Hello? It's been months now, anyone listening?

Nov 7, 2015 6:34 AM in response to mghughesby mghughes,OK, a reboot of my phone after deleting the conversation seems to have fixed this.
Just a shame I had to delete all my messages from the past 4 years.
