(1) See if your Leica is one of the models compatible with OS X Mavericks: Supported digital camera RAW formats. Update if needed.
(2) If not, check if your Leica's Digital camera RAW format is supported by OS X Yosemite and upgrade your OS X version if possible.
(3) You can also consider upgrading to OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) if it will support your Leica's RAW format.
(4) Search the web for software alternatives that can convert your camera's DNG RAW format to one that your Mac's OS can use.
(5) Contact Leica or your Leica retailer to find out if they offer file format conversion software compatible with your system.
(6) Record your images in jpeg format until you can find a system-compatible way to use the DNG RAW files that you want.

See if your camera is in the list. There are also other RAW converters that work with DNG files, and a few are low-cost or free.
You might want to wean yourself off iPhoto. It would be my last choice for organizing and processing images.
