Q: wireless Apple keyboard stalls requires restart

Since update, the keyboard/typing occasionally stalls and shows me alternate letter options, and there is a kind of fluttering key sound, like someone is pressing my keys. The only fix is to restart. Happened in Preview and in Firefox and in LibreOffice. Can't figure out a cause, but it works for a day, then starts up again. I restart because I fear a kernel panic (paranoid).

My desktop is not on wifi.

iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013), OS X El Capitan (10.11)

I should add, my bluetooth magic mouse and trackpad work fine, it is only a keyboard issue for me.

My magic mouse and trackpad work fine as well. However, I am quite certain that the trackpad is making the keyboard misbehave. Read my comment upstream for an explanation of what I mean.

Well, I don't let my computer go to sleep anymore and won't until there is a definite fix. The display is turned off after 15mins, but the computer and hard disks don't sleep. It's not a problem for my desktop, but might not work for those with laptops. My laptop is still in Yosemite.

I also disconnected my trackpad when the troubles began, but I think its some relationship between Bluetooth devices and sleeping/wake from sleep.

I have the same problem ever since I installed El Capitan. Reboot helps for a while, I'll try turning the keyboard off and back on next time, which will be soon I expect. Thanks.

Hope the Apple people read all this and will repair it in the next update.

10.11.2 did not fix it for me either.  Disappointed

This really is getting ridiculous now. Nothing but problems with El Capitan and the latest versions of iOS. Apple is going down hill every day.

I haven't had the problem for two days now, so try this. In System Preferences, click on the light bulb, second row, third icon from the left.

Then click on the first thing you see and unclick the second. Hope this helps, it seems to in El Capitan.

This issue is STILL NOT ADDRESSED in OS X 10.11.3!!! I'm beginning to think that we are going to have to buy the new trackpad if we want things to work properly. The Magic Trackpad (previous version) is the issue, at least for me. Everything works perfectly when the Magic Trackpad is removed from my system. With the Magic Trackpad on and connected via Bluetooth, goofiness returns.

It apparently has not been addressed in 10.11.4 either as I installed the beta and still have the issue. In my case I use both Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. If I turn either one off the problem goes away instantly, but when I have them both turned on the issue comes back immediatey. Sometimes I can go days without the issue happening, other days the only way I can solve it is by rebooting. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue, because it never happens when I am running Windows 10 thru Bootcamp. IT'S MADDENING!!!!

That's interesting!! I also have both Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad. Since I more frequently use the Mouse, I started by turning

off the trackpad. When that worked, I didn't go on to try connecting the trackpad without the mouse. You are right, it is a software issue. I never had an issue until OS X 10.11.

I too have switched off my trackpad (didnt really use it that much anyway) and the problem has gone away.

I did read a post on the apple developer forums that it might be proximity related ie when trackpad and keyboard are next to each other... but havent tested this yet.

Pretty poor show that you have to switch off one piece of uber-designed-apple-goodness just to make the other bit work.

    Oh well!

Actually it didn't! Re-installing OS X didnt work and it started to go crazy again after a few days.

Since switching off the trackpad has been OK. Not a great solution for macbook owners but acceptable for iMac users if not too worried about having a working trackpad.

4th beta of 10.11.4 still has the issue. Happened to be right after reboot for installation today.

I have a late 2014 27" 5K Retina iMac, experiencing the same Apple Wireless Keyboard issue. I too am running OS X 10.11.4 Beta 4, and the problem still persists. This issue started with OS X 10.11 and has persisted in all versions so far.

This is not a solution, but does seem to get around the keyboard issue. I have found that waking from sleep with the Magic Trackpad or the Magic Mouse seems to avoid the problem. The only time this issue seems to happen, is when I use the Apple Wireless Keyboard to wake the 2014 iMac from sleep.
