Q: Where is my iPhoto pictures

Hello,

I was using Safari 5.1.10 and was quite comfortable with it.

I had to upgrade the browser to get a certain banks internet banking to work and as such I followed a few prompts and got OS X el capitan 10.11.1

I have now discovered that iPhoto with my 11000 pictures or so is no longer there.

How can I get them back?

If I download Safari 5.1.10 snow leopard again, will that bring iPhoto back with more importantly my pictures??

Looking forward to some guidance here with thanks.

Where have you looked? It should be in your Applications Folder. Is it?

Have you tried the new Photos app, that will also open an iPhoto Library.

Only iPhoto 9.6.1 can run on El Capitan.

Does your iPhoto icon in the Applications folder or the Dock  look crossed out like this?

    Screen Shot 2015-11-08 at 08.39.01GMT.png

Then you need to update iPhoto to the current version 9.6.1.

    • Basically, remove the incompatible iPhot from the Applications folder to the Trash, but don't empty the Trash.
    • Launch the AppStore, open the fourth tab "Purchases". You should be seeing iPhoto there with an "Install" button. Press "Install"

If I download Safari 5.1.10 snow leopard again, will that bring iPhoto back with more importantly my pictures??

No, iPhoto is not part of MacOS X and not installed by MacOS X.

If your iPhoto version has not been updated by the AppStore to an AppStore version, you may not be able to update or upgrade to iPhoto 9.6.1, because Apple stopped developing and selling iPhoto.

Get iPhoto 9.6.1 if you didn't update before OS X 10.10.3

Oh I see, yes just plain photo, not I photo and I found my pictures.  Thank you!

The iPhoto app is completely removed from the desk top but it was crossed out like leonie indicated in the above picture.

As long as the pictures will stay in the 'photo' app, then I think I can work on that.

Once I transfer all the pics to a HDD or USB I will try to update to iPhoto version 9.6.1 (which I assume can still work with el capitan?)

On another subject, how do you get the screen saver weather to display?

Oh and now quick time won't work!

Do you have a download link for quick time that will work with el capitan?

The El  Capitan Upgrade should have installe QuickTime Player 10.4 as part of the system. It runs well on El Capitan.

Perhaps your Dock icon is linking to an older version. Launch QuickTime directly from the Applications folder.

If your QuickTime version is older, reinstall MacOS X by booting into Recovery, to make a full install of the system instead of just updating.

See:  OS X: About OS X Recovery

Or do you want to run QuickTime Player 7 Pro?  QuicktIme Player 7.6.6 will run on El Capitan. Update to tthe latest version of QuickTime Player 7 from the Downloads page:  QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later

I am not really sure what I want to run.

I downloaded the new link above 10.6.3 and the file is still not working, maybe a dodgy file?

Actually just tried another MP4 file and it didn't open that, just getting a message saying quick time can't open.

To see if additional software is available that will enable quicktime player then links to this:

Try the download link to Quicktime 7  in :  If QuickTime Player can't open an audio or video file - Apple Support

This will download the most recent QuickTime 7:  Installing QuickTime Player 7 on your Mac - Apple Support

    • Check, if your QuickTime problem happens for every video or only certain codecs.
    • Check if it only happen in your user account or any account: Test this by signing in as the guest user.  If the problem happens in another user account as well, it is system wide, and in that case I would reinstall MacOS X:   Boot into recovery and install from there: OS X: About OS X Recovery

If the problem persist, ask this part of your question again in the El Capitan forum for QuickTime, see this link:   QuickTime
