Q: iPhone music app does not show synced artist

I've got an extensive library of music sync'ed from my Mac to my iPhone 6. But I'm noticing that the artist listings on my iPhone's Music app are missing artists whose songs are sync'ed and who show up as artists in iTunes. The songs are certainly on the iPhone, and they are tagged with the appropriate artist, but the artist listing in the iPhone music app does not show them.

I usually browse by artist and queue things up, so this is seriously impeding my listening.

Anyone else experiencing this?

BTW - Here's an example. Check out this artist search/listing on iOS vs iTunes:

    IOS MUSIC APP:

    iPhone Music Ice Cube.png

    ITUNES:

    iTunes Music Ice Cube.png

Ice Cube (yes, I just saw the Straight Outta Compton movie) shows up as an artist on iTunes, but not on the iPhone. Even though the actual songs are sync'ed to the iphone and are tagged with the artist correctly.

I'm having precisely the same problem. I sync my iPhone with my iMac, and all of my music transfers, however when I sort by artists, it only presents a fraction of the number of artists. Really, really irritating.

Exactly the same. Took me a while to realise but having now seen it I can see it affects loads and loads of artists. The tracks are on my iPhone - I can create smaller playlists containing the tracks and they appear (but the way Music displays the lists is never in order so it's useless). Really not impressed with Music on iPhone - only ever been a nightmare for large collections.

Using iPhone 6 updated to 9.1, after syncing, all artists are on Macbook iTunes OnMyDevice but on the iPhone itself under My Music, Artists, several artists are not showing up. This is really annoying.

I think I found the root of the problem: search for your artist on iTunes, right click on song (or all songs at once for that matter), go to Get Info...there's a field there called "album artist" - which is probably not edited yet - write your artist name and sync your phone again...it should solve the problem. Downside you have to do it one artist at the time...no idea why apple needs two "artist" categories anyway, just extra work to organize the whole...

Thanks so much, Ana2000!! This was driving me crazy for months, but your suggestion worked for me!

Tried Ana2000s idea but still no joy for me. Several artists are showing up on my Macbook under iTunes OnMyDevice but even after syncing they are not showing on my iPhone6 iOS 9.1 under the Artists list. They are on the iPhone and I can find them if I search but they're just not listed under Artists.

I have had this same issue and this thread helped me solve the issue.

Like Ana2000 the issue is in the Album Artist.

Album artist is used to determine the artist the entire album or project belongs to.

You can use the regular artist tab to name all the artist on that certain song.

when you click get info to edit the Song/Albums there is a check box that reads "Album is a compilation of songs by various artist"

IF THIS IS CHECKED you can find the album in the Compilation section on your phone rather then Artist.

    Screen Shot 2016-01-13 at 1.17.06 PM.png

by unchecking this you will now be able to see the Album listed as whatever you named the" Album Artist" in the artist section of your phone.

hope this was clear and helps.

i had to right click to go into "GET INFO" then go to "OPTIONS" change this to music from voice memo, hit OK. Then i had to CREATE AAC version...only way i could get the voice memo from the playlist in iTunes (which said it was already on my phone, but was not physically on the phone) onto a playlist on my phone.. hope it helps

I have not been able to get any of the above fixes to work.  I'm still missing a few albums from certain artists.
