Q: as a casual user of my desktop do i need fire vault on or just firewall

Ive noticed i have firewall turned on and have fire vault off do i still have proper protection on my mac? By the question you can tell I'm not exactly Steve Jobs

OS X El Capitan: About FileVault encryption

Turning on the firewall serves no purpose if you're on a private network behind a router.
