Q: iMAC (2013) and Bootcamp 5.1.5640 not correct version

I have an iMAC (2013) and have tried to update to bootcamp 5.1.5640. When I run the setup file in Windows 8.0 I get the following error:

" This version of Boot Camp is not intended for this computer model"

I have been successful in using bootcamp 5.1.5621.

This is peculiar since I have the 2013 iMAC 27" model. I purchased it in Jan 2013

Any thoughts?

Thanks

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), iOS 7.0.6, Bootcamp Windows 8.0

You posted to the general iMac forum, I would suggest that you ask in the Boot Camp forums.

5621 is the right DL for your machine; 5640 is for all machines after mid 2013

On the OS X side, if you run BC Assistant, and use option 'Download Software...' and a USB flash drive to store, it will download the appropriate version. You can check the version number in bootcamp.xml on the USB to verify the version you get.

From Install Windows 7 and earlier on your Mac using Boot Camp - Apple Support (it has number for W7, W8 and W8.1 - Apple's W8.1 Use Windows 8.1 on your Mac with Boot Camp - Apple Support does not show the matrix that the W7 article does. So much for consistency... ), click on the exact model link, and download the software manually.

Please verify your model in About this Mac.

When I use the BC Installer on the Mac side to create the USB files, I get the error "This is not intended for this machine"  I do have a Mac Air Mid 2013 model and it is supposed to use the 5.1.5640 which fails to install on the windows side.

Do I need to remove something first to do the upgrade?

    1. The title says iMac 2013, yet you are asking about Macbook Air 2013.

    2. Can you verify in bootcamp.xml the line which says Product Version and post its contents? Here is an example.

      <ProductManufacturer>Apple Inc.</ProductManufacturer>

      <ProductVersion>5.0.5033</ProductVersion>

    <ProductCode>{FA2B2C2A-EA41-495A-9308-60726125D562}</ProductCode>

    3. Your 2013 (iMac or MBA) both support W10 as well. If BCA is used and it has downloaded W10 drivers, W10 BC6 drivers will not install on W8.

I saw others were having a similar issue but mine is a MacBook Air (Mid 2013).  I have successfully installed Windows7 and have no issues except that I was going to add the thunderbolt ethernet adapter and saw the 5.1.5640 suggested update.

Here is the line in the .bootcamp.xmi file

I guess I should ask which file version should it be?

Alternatively, is there a manual way of doing this?

This is BC 6 meant for Windows 10, hence the error message. You are definitely using 6.0.6133 as indicated in this and you need 5.1.5640. (Apple has botched the entire W10 BC drivers packaging and roll-out).

Alternatively, is there a manual way of doing this?

Use a USB2 flash drive (it will be erased and formatted) and click on Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640 and download it to the USB. Boot into Windows, and run setup.exe from Bootcamp folder on this USB.

I did that precisely, downloaded 5.1.5640 and loaded it on a FAT USB drive and ran the setup.exe

Here's the rub (from the onset).  I'm wondering if its just the wrong file or due to the fact that the previous installation is causing a conflict?

Not sure there is a fix for this yet or if anyone has a suggestion.....

Try to un-install and 6.x drivers you see in Programs and Features or use Device Manager to uninstall/re-install .5640 drivers.

Well the program manager at least now shows the 5.1.5640 version but repairing is still gives the "The installer encountered errors before Boot Camp could be configured"

Maybe it's ok, just not sure what this message means....IMG_5797.jpg

Can you check Device Manager for any unknown devices (yellow triangle with exclamation)?
